This is not a deep dive into any advanced metrics when the suns go to ‘Point Book’ offense. But these photos show Bookers averages in games CP missed ever since we traded for the Point God. In games Book played while CP was out, we primarily had Booker running the point(obviously) and we had a record of 18-8.

Bookers stats playing with Paul injured are extremely similar to his bubble run. Now, in the bubble, Booker had Ricky Rubio next to him, but Rubio averaged less than 27 minutes per game and a lot of his minutes came staggered to Bookers so that we always had at least one solid ball handler on the floor. Point Book was in effect much of that bubble run, and that was the first real time we saw Bookers growth as the primary ball handler lead to stackable wins against good teams.

Thought these stats were pretty cool, and as someone who has been advocating for more Point Book the last two seasons, I’m excited for what he’ll be able to do in that role next to such great scorers and bench shooters. What do yall think?

  1. Point Book! He’s going to slap those ESPN bitches this season. Our boy is just hitting his prime!

  2. Book hasn’t really ran point at all since we’ve had Rubio/Payne/CP3 at any significant stretch of time. He’s always had another ball handler on the court. Except for some really rare occasions.

Only playing time I can really think of is this last year when CP3 got Injured. Could be wrong tho

  3. Book unlike a lot of his contemporaries has/was forced to consistently improve his game. Any complaints levied at his game he’s quickly worked to fix.

  4. Idk why we’re so enamored with point book. Beal actually played point more than Book if I recall.

Hell his very 1st start at point for the Wizards was a 27 points and 17!!! assists masterpiece.

  5. Booker will get playmaking duties.

But I’d like to see Beal as the “Point guard” to start the season.

He’s a better handler if the basketball and operates around screens more fluidly than Booker does. Go watch old tapes of Beal cooking us in the PnR with Thomas Bryant.

Booker is a better drive and kick type though.
