There’s an important election on August 8th! Register to vote by July 10th!

**Note: The mods of this subreddit approved this post.**

In Ohio, citizens can change the state Constitution if an amendment gets more than 50% support from voters. But this could change in August.

On August 8th, Ohioans will vote on whether to approve [Measure 1](https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2023/06/27/what-is-ohio-issue-1-on-the-ballot-in-august-2023/70359953007/), which would make it so changes to the Constitution need 60% support to pass, and would make it harder for citizens to place amendments on the ballot. This will affect future amendments, such as one to restore abortion rights in November.

The basic summary: Vote YES if you want amendments to need 60% support to pass, vote NO if you want amendments to need 50% support as they do now.

  1. In other words, vote yes if you want to take power away from yourself and give it to the politicians in the statehouse.

Vote No if you don’t want to take power away from yourself.

  2. Thanks for spreading this information! I would, however, recommend you edit the post to read “Issue 1” instead of “Measure 1” as Ohio votes on issues, not measures, and using the incorrect term could cause confusion.
