  1. Portland will probably match but it’s worth noting that they only have 5 hours left to make it official.

It’s very likely that they are just doing this to dissuade future offer sheets – this is also why Reeves got so little; it was assumed that the Lakers would match basically any offer sheet so all it would do would be to tie up your cap sheet until they inevitably matched. Having announced they would match immediately, it would not be a good look for them to go back on it.

    The only real way out is if they said “we talked to MT and he REALLY wants to go to Dallas, so we are honouring his wishes”. Seems very unlikely.

  17. To me, this is just holding out because as per terms of our offer sheet, once they sign it, they have 14 days to pay Thybulle $2.6m.

    As much as we imagine billionaires and corporations have buckets of cash lying around, it’s possible they need to to do some work to get the money together and waiting til the last minute gives them essentially an extra working day to get the money together.

  20. Followill suggested something weird was going on because it’s only been sources saying Portland’s matches but there has been no official announcement from Portland or the NBA. Clock is running.
