  1. In what world is Jack Jones not included here smh

Can’t wait until we have the best defense in the league and make a playoff run

  2. We’ll overperform as usual, never worried about the D even if they have a bad game here n there.

If anything knocks the ranking, i assume it’d be the overall health of the unit. And the expected loss of Jack Jones.

  3. I’d say it’s pretty accurate. Whilst Gonzo has a ton of potential he hasn’t played yet, Jo. Jones is a slot guy who struggled last year against good WRs, Marcus Jones is currently a better return man than he is SCB, and Myles Bryant is Myles Bryant.

As for safeties Dugger is a great in-the-box SS, Phillips is more of a LB than SS, Peppers is poor man’s Jamal Adams, and it’s been a few years since Mills played any FS.

  4. I think it’s fair to assume. I don’t think they were particularly good last year. They were great against shitty teams, but kinda sucked against the good ones. Until there’s any evidence that they’re actually going to be competitive against those teams I don’t see why you’d rank them any higher.

  5. I think the floor for this unit is middle of the pack. If Gonzalez is as advertised and becomes a #1 CB and the safety communication remains good with McCourty gone, they could be elite.

  6. Completely underrating the secondary IMO. A “middle of the pack” secondary isn’t good enough to give you a top 3 defense and they added a 1st round pick to it.

  7. It’s a bit uncertain. Gonzalez is a rookie, Jones is good but not some lockdown #1, Jack and Marcus Jones have promise but are young and still uncertain, and losing McCourty could leave a hole we won’t fill. The strong safety position is strong, for sure.

Relying on that much youth can go either way, tbh.

  8. Probably a very reasonable assessment.

    1. Rookie Gonzalez is probably going to be the CB #1. Probably going to have an adjustment period. He is good, but not outstanding physical stats.
    2. Jack Jones has unknown issues.
    3. Mills isn’t going to be a top FS. He lacks the desired speed and range. The #2 FS is unclear at the moment and would require moving someone really good at their current role to a new alignment that might mot maximize their talent and create a void.

  9. It’s not laughably bad or anything. I could see a midseason list like this having the secondary a good bit higher depending on how things shake out with Jones, and if Gonzalez looks legit.

Either way, it’s a ranking list in early July. So it’s really just there to generate clicks and make people on reddit tear into each other.
