There’s a Japanese idiom, 孤軍奮闘, meaning “fighting a lone battle.” I feel like it captures the sentiment around what’s going on with this team (due to injury) and Ohtani at the moment.

Apparently our SPs not named Sho have mailed it in too. I’m really disappointed at Detmer’s lack of “bulldog”. It’s in his eyes too. Now time for Paddy Oneal to grease up Ohtani for the next 30 min instead of discussing the Angels lack of fight.
Pain. 10 straight losses against the Dodgers. In a season where we’re trying to make the playoffs to convince Ohtani to stay long-term, it doesn’t help when the potential destination for Ohtani beats us 10 games in a row.
I haven’t really said this yet this season but our hitting and pitching coaching has to be garbage. The hitting coach (Thames I think?) is noted to have an aggressive approach, which is so aggressive the opposing pitchers sometimes have no issues with pitch count (Gonsolin yesterday, Valdez CG etc.). I don’t know if the stats still support it but we’re so bad pitching wise on 0-2 counts, always throwing a mistake pitch or throwing the wrong pitch in general. Every pitcher except like Estevez and maybe Ohtani have underperformed pitching wise.
We’re so easy to read by teams like the Astros and the Dodgers and it’s evident in every game we’ve played against them this season. It’s like there’s a “How to beat the Angels” guide that winning teams have whenever they play us.
Hopefully the All-star break washes this depressing first half away, we’re playing the Astros and Yankees afterwards so we have no choice but to wake up.
If this was the usual buttercupping I don’t think it would be this frustrating, but Perry did almost everything right and the entire roster still gets annihilated, absolute tragicomedy.
Velasquez should not be starting at this level. His defense is not worth letting him bat.
We need to use Rengifo at first base
3-17 in our last 20 games against the Dodgers, seems like a distant memory when the Angels used to actually compete against them.
