A good amount of the users on r/nba we’re probably 5 years old or younger or not even born yet when Shaq made this demand. That along with social media not being prevalent, and most people are just learning about this today lol
People are also more upset about Dame because he openly said there is only one team he wants to go to. When AD went to the lakers, do you think there was ANY chance he was going to go to his “other options”? Of course there fucking wasn’t it’s all just optics. The rest of the NBA will get over this once the trades done and the next disgruntled star wants out lol.

I love our young guys but learned not to get attached to them, going for the championship instead of waiting and seeing if “he could be an all star one day” is worth it especially if the organization has a track record of delivering in such scenarios
As for the other side, you gotta accept that you’ll never get equal value for your star. It’s crazy how everyone looks at this as if the Heat are only offering seconds and Kyle Lowry. They’ll get compensated but it’ll never equate to a Dame especially at his current age, demand and contract. But you’ll have some nice building blocks to make your rebuild better.
Pretty sure Shaq was eligible for an extension the next off season. Dame has already signed his. That’s a big difference. Dame may well end up in Miami but it won’t be for the garbage they currently have on offer. Heat need to free up their draft picks. Gonna be interesting to see what price OKC demands for that to occur.
What? Besides big market east teams, the rest of the NBA has loved the Heat during the Jimmy era. We were all pulling for you against Denver. Just like everybody loves Dame. Would be a perfect fit culture and player wise. But the way the two parties are acting in the current moment is trash. It’s not the goal that stinks it’s the means. It’s bad-bad guys. Dame deserves the change and if all possible where he wants to go. But wow….
Doesn’t change the awesome dude Dame is or the awesome Heat culture as a whole but in the moment, it’s disappointing. It’s cool he wants to go to Miami. Who the fuck wouldn’t want to live there. But shit just because Miami can probably get away with a fleece, you guys get mad at any sort of pushback or criticism of negotiations
