This makes sense. Trading for Pascal “now” made zero sense to me.

As much as it’d be cool, I’m totally fine with not going through with it. I really want development for walker and Obi
Pascal would move the needle, but I don’t like what we would have to give up to make the numbers work and we already added 2 4’s this offseason that are more along the timeline imo.
We still have a lot free agency, and I imagine we’ll probably make a move or two in some multi team deals to unload some of the log jams at SG, SF and C. But I am not really expecting anything too big up ahead. At least not until summer league is over, assuming they bench Jackson, Mathurin, and Nembhard to focus on seeing what they have in the rest of in Vegas.
But I’m a casual fan with a casual opinion.
Toronto is trying to play hardball and it’s not fooling anyone. They are going to miss out on a good trade and their guys are going to walk for nothing.
At this point we have to hope we already have a solution at the 4 in Obi or Walker. Bringing in Siakam just wouldn’t make all that much sense. We really need a 3, because I think Mathurin is more of a 2.
Too late now. I think everyone will be surprised at how awesome Obi will be in Indiana. He’s going to fit in perfect!

Hield, Thies, Nembhard, Jalen Smith, one pick (protected)
the package i would prefer:
Hield, Theis, Nwora, Jalen Smith, two picks (light protection)
if they want Mathurin i’m out. Nembhard is a maaaaybe.
all in all it’s a weird trade that doesn’t quite alleviate all our roster construction issues
Only an option if we have assurances he’s signing here long term. And even then I’m not sure we are close enough to make that move which what you give up
My pet theory is that the Pacers contacted the teams to see if they could wriggle in a three teamer to try and grab Hunter from Atl
