Why the Raptors Should Go All In for Damian Lillard

I don’t hate this? Seems far better than what’s currently offered. Wish there was another draft pick over a random piece. But Scoot, Shae, and Scottie would be a blast to watch.

This is my favorite trade framework. I’d even be fine with leaving GTJ out and replacing him with other salary filler if Toronto would find that more palatable. Unfortunately, it sounds like Toronto has been shopping Siakam and they seem more focused on getting younger than building another contender, but who knows. I think this trade could make sense for both sides.

I think the blazers would do a deal if scottie barnes were on the table. Toronto went all-in on a 1-year rental for Kawhi Leonard and got a title. By all accounts, OG and Pascal are looking to stay in Toronto, and this gives them a very good chance at winning another title. It sends Dame to play for a team that wants to he competitive short term with guys he wants to play with.
This has been my favorite outcome for a while, and it seems like a win-win for both teams. We know how reluctant Masai is to make trades though, so it remains to be seen. Scottie Barnes is the perfect return player for Dame.
If Barnes were on the table, then Portland would have to look seriously at that deal. I highly doubt it is though, because Dame has already said it’s Miami or bust unfortunately. The man doesn’t have a no-trade clause like Beal, but he’s doing everything in his power to force Portland’s hand into taking a lesser package with Miami. I wish Dame would be a little more flexible and add a team or two to his list, but he wants to go to the team that was just in the finals. This is arguably one of the biggest trades in Blazers history, and one that will make or break the rebuild of Portland’s roster. In the end I think Dame will go to Miami, and we will have to take a shitty package. I hope I’m wrong though.
The absolute ideal trade: Dame for Scottie Barnes and salary filler. Let’s get it done.
Scoot/Sharpe/Barnes could be the uber athletic core of the future.

Ive commented this same sentiment multiple times in this sub and is my dream scenario. It makes sense for us and Masai imo. Screw 5 FRP, give us Scottie.
Scoot/Ant/Sharpe/Scottie is OKC levels of potential imo.
Dame/GTJ/OG/Siakam is damn good and their window would probably be around 3 years if Siakam re-signs. When it’s time to blow it up, they have assets to flip for picks.
Plus Dame can hit up Drake to record 🤷♂️
Yea we didn’t trade Scottie for Durant there’s a 0% chance that we trade him for a 32 year old Lillard who apparently only wants to be in Miami.
Is Scottie even available? Isn’t he untouchable according to them?
Don’t get your hopes up this isn’t going to happen. Raptors fan here. We traded Demar for Kawhi which put us over the edge for a title. This is almost the same scenario. Disgruntled star who likely doesn’t want to play in Toronto. Scottie has way more value then Demar had at that time. Gary Trent also has value. As does a #1 pick. The Raptors wouldn’t consider this. Dame isn’t going to put the Raptors into title contention with what we’d have left over.
It’d be awesome to get Barnes but we really need the picks.
And getting picks or even swaps that don’t come into play until 2028 doesn’t help us much. I guess we could hope the other players could be dealt for picks but you never know what you’re gonna get back.
If Barnes is an option that would be a great return!
Toronto is by far the best option if we can get Scottie.

If we can get Barnes I fw it. Even without a ton of extra picks. Three top 7 picks in consecutive years is exactly what we should be going for in a rebuild especially at PF/SG/PG
After: exact kind of trade we should be looking for. Hit a quick reset with Barnes, I think move Trent to let Shae develop here, and we’re very quickly making waves.
Why would toronto want 2-3 years of dame? Then he’s 36 with Barnes still in his mid 20s? Lol

There’s a poetry to it. Instead of getting Toronto to trade Siakam or Anunoby here to play with Dame, we trade Dame there to play with them.
As a fan of both teams this helps them each clearly pick a path. And I have honestly been suggesting something similar for weeks.
It would pretty much be Scottie and filler so no FRP I suspect. But the whole point of picks is to hopefully get a rookie of the year with great potential. It is possible that a bunch of young players and picks will all turn out great. But statistically and historically it’s only going to 40 to 60% of early picks at best.
Still it let’s the Blazers follow the path they want of rebuilding and the Raptors follow the path they want of win now.
That all said I don’t see how Dame could be forced to go to Toronto anymore than Pascal could be forced to go to Portland. “I will play unhappily and you will pay me 55 million” is pretty much the same as “I won’t sign an extension”.
