Dante Exum signed a two-year, $6.1M deal with the Mavs with the second season nonguaranteed. His $3M salary this season is a piece of the Mavs’ midlevel exception.

Let’s see how he plays!

  1. Don’t love that this goes into our mid level exception but not like there’s a whole lot of other options on the market. If his shooting carries over to the NBA then we might have a MUCH better option than Theo and Frank, seeing that he’s known for his defense and can hopefully be another shooting option for us. Here’s hoping!

  2. Hmm, so what’s the difference between this and a team option?

Overall, not bad, gives the Mavs the flexibility to keep him on the cheap if he plays well, or to treat his contract as expiring for trades either this year or next.

  3. 2 year deals are good. if he’s good, then we get early bird rights. if he’s bad, then you don’t guarantee money lol. this is low risk/high reward. it’s really no reason to complain lol

  4. Wait a minute, why is this going into the MLE? I thought it was just a standard vet min

  5. Mavs kinda fumbled this MLE. Should’ve went after grant from day 1 and then the MLE targets may have still been available..

  6. It is really only 500K more than his minimum. I’m betting it was his $2.5 million minimum orginally since there was no way of fitting in Thybulle’s offer sheet if he got $3 million. Maybe the extra 500K is to get him to agree to a 2nd non-guaranteed year, which would benefit us in keeping him cheap if he works out. There is really no reason to be upset about this. Their 2 main targets for the MLE (Brown and Brooks) went for double the MLE and Portland matched Thybulle’s offer. There is no one left worth the MLE.

  7. Might as well include Seth in the MLE instead of use the BAE on him then. Nobody worth pursuing is available for the MLE anyways

  8. Not shocking after failing to land MT. Probably fold Seth into it, too, as we’ve all been expecting. There’s nobody around worth that specific amount of money at this point.

  9. Nobody left worth the MLE anyway. Dante and Seth combined is like 7.5M, so if they want to pay somebody else like 4-5M that may still be an option

  10. You’re already seeing the predicted affect on medium to small salaried players everyone said the CBA would have. I can’t remember another offseason where so many guys were signing non guaranteed deals.

  11. MLE is pretty much useless now, so this doesn’t matter. Still a team friendly deal so fine by me
