Max Clark undecided about major leagues vs college?

I just read this article published yesterday and towards the end it quotes Max Clark as saying he’s undecided whether he will sign with the Tigers or take the scholarship to Vanderbilt.
Thoughts?

  1. He would ruin future HS draft picks for a generation. No one would be willing to take a HS that high if he doesn’t sign like he promised.

  2. They’ll sign him, but the Tigers literally handed the Rangers Langford, a college player, so they could save $650,000. The opposite of what Mike Ilitch did. The Tigers were good from 2004-2014 because they overspent (Pudge, Mags, JV, Cabrera). Now this HS kid wants to equivocate? F’in BS.

  3. Maybe I’ll eat crow later but this is the biggest nothingburger to me. You don’t make that pick and alter your plans for later in the draft without basically knowing how this will work out.

  4. What happens if he doesn’t sign? Do we just completely lose him and waste that pick?

  5. Just being politically correct since his agent is still technically negotiating and he’s unsigned. Don’t worry y’all

  6. He will sign. They would not of drafted him and he already had said previously he agreed to Texas slot money. You don’t leave $7-$8M on the table. His agent maybe told him to talk that way til they sign, but he will be a Tiger.

  7. That would be a colossal mistake on the Tigers part. I’m just going to assume they drafted him knowing they could sign him. They fucking better.

  8. In an interview after the draft didn’t he literally say that he agreed to sign at Texas’s slot value?? I feel like it’d be really stupid to turn down that kind of money especially after agreeing to accept a lower bonus.

  9. The kid would really have to love molecular engineering or whatever the easy major at Vanderbilt is.

  10. Think of the social media hype he could generate for ‘decision day’ (the 25th.)

Maybe he ‘hasn’t decided’, but he knows what he is going to decide.

  11. Why does this bother me?

His quote of: “I still haven’t made a decision.”

Is it crazy for me to be bothered by this, more or so a lack of commitment. I get the “hasn’t officially signed” but just bothers me that he worded it that way.

  12. He’s been re-posting Tigers highlights on his Instagram, posting stories of the photoshop of him in a Tigers uni, if that means anything to anyone. He’s gonna sign, 100%.

  13. Clearly Max is someone who craves attention and knows how to leverage it. Not a knock on him, it’s just who he is. He thrives on will-he-won’t-he type material, and he will milk it for all it’s worth for clicks.

On one hand, I could see him being a trophy collector, and wanting to stack up college accolades and notoriety. Vandy’s a great baseball program and he’d likely be able to do that there. But I wonder if the lure of the big leagues just overcomes all that. I think he will sign with the Tigers.

  14. This has to be a negotiating tactic by his agent. There is no way Scott would have wasted the third overall pick on a high school player that he believed wasn’t going to sign with this organization. It’s not possible.
