Scuttle about Hayes

Apparently, Ke’Bryan’s dad, Charlie, is stirring up shit about his son being unhappy and wants traded.

I wouldn’t hate it if we got a good return, especially if he gets packaged with one of our infielder chips for major league starting pitching

Here is a quick comparison of couple stats of Hayes minor league #s vs Triolo:

Hayes OBP: .357 OPS: .749 25 minor league homers, 96 doubles (1,731 ABs)
Triolo: OBP: .367 OPS: .806 27 minor league homers, 83 doubles (1407 ABs)

Triolo is more than adequate defensively. He may not be Hayes level (no one is), but he’s better than average at 3rd. He looks sharp so far. Hayes has a good speed tool, but he may never develop much more offensively. To me, Hayes would have great value on a team with a strong offense (Yankees and Orioles come to mind) where he can slide to 7th or 8th in a lineup and provide major defense. One thing I noted about Triolo is his OBP and his OPS got better every year.

What do you guys think? To me, they’re close to the same player. Triolo may develop more power (signs are pointing to that), and Hayes has little power with a career mlb OBP of .318. His speed tool won’t play unless he can get on base more frequently. If we got a great offer for a solid major league starter, and that team eats salary, I’d do it.

Hayes just signed a $70 contract so that doesn’t suggest he wants out. His dad is probably just talking shit,

For a team like the Pirates, we need power out of the 3rd base position, and Triolo may be a better solution.

  1. Hayes has kind of regressed since his first call up. I’d listen to offers for a trade but not feel the urge to do it ASAP given what may be out there as a return.

  2. I don’t think Triolo is a better baseball player than Hayes, but Hayes has to get whatever injuries he has figured out

Makes no sense paying the guy $8 million a year if he’s hampered by injuries when he plays

  3. If he doesn’t want to be here then let him go. Get someone decent for him in a trade. He seems to be injury prone. Team won’t get better with piss poor attitudes. Plus Triolo has been more then expected at third. Ship him to Oakland or KC and see how he likes that.

  4. Someone needs to tell Charlie and Ke’Bryan if they’re worried about winning maybe Hayes can stay healthy and contribute with the bat.

  5. Hate to say it but what players are happy to play for the pirates realistically? Cutch right now to ride off into the sunset and his family is here. Bednar because he is a hometown boy. I think you need to have some kind of connection to be happy here.

  6. Forget Triolo, does moving Hayes open 3rd up for Oneil Cruz and breakup the logjam down the middle. He has the arm for it and his height could help protect the foul line on grounders. Plus the eliminates the concern of moving him to first wasting his arm

  7. I don’t think you can trade Hayes just because of the PR nightmare. They made a BIG deal about his contract. I think they’re still trying to extract Hayes’ dick from Greg Brown’s throat.
