Man I hate this. It just feels like the last however many years of the Sox were a waste of time.
They can afford to overpay.
They simply don’t have enough to get him. They would have to trade major pieces in there lineup given how depleted their farm is. Not gonna blow up a World Series roster for one starting pitcher
First, Hahn should not be allowed to trade anyone except expiring contracts.
If they trade Cease, you’re looking at a rotation in 2024 of: Kopech? That’s it?

They might have the only farm system worse than ours

If the Sox end up moving Cease, it will be to a team like the Dodgers.
My guess is the Astros are confident that they can tweak a few things with him and make him borderline unhittable. Honestly, we only have Cease for two years after this, so they should probably either sign him or trade him. But the Sox also don’t need to force a deal.

Unless the Astros can give away great prospects and players…You’ll have to offer the White Sox something they can’t refuse. While we suck this year the sox still has players young enough to build around and to trade Dylan Cease or Luis Robert doesn’t make sense. I can see the Sox trading Giolito, Moncada, Anderson, Benintendi, Middleton, Lynn, and few others before they trade Cease or Robert.
