[WFAN] Debate: Could Don Mattingly replace Aaron Boone as Yankee manager?

  1. There’s gotta be a point where we realize it’s not necessarily on Boone. He’s acting and being how he was told to. He was given a mediocre team minus Judge and Cole and was told “follow our analytics and don’t be too hard on them”

  2. I don’t even care what his managerial history says, I’d love for Don to come in and knock some sense into these overpaid clowns that think losing is funny

  3. **Mattingly as Dodgers manager:**
    5 years
    3 playoff appearances
    0 World Series
    0 NL pennants
    0 NLCS appearances

    **Mattingly as Marlins manager:**
    7 years
1 playoff appearance (covid shortened season)
    0 World Series
    0 NL pennants
    0 NLCS appearances

I love Donny baseball, but I don’t understand why so many fans (especially older fans) think he’s some superstar manager. Go talk to Dodgers and Marlins fans about Mattingly’s work as manager lol

  4. Can we stop with this. Mattingly is not a good manager. Did ok with a bad team in Miami, but greatly underachieved in LA. You want to replace Boone, I’m all for it. But hire someone who will be an actual upgrade.

  5. If they fire Boone, all they will do is bring in another meathead that they can use as a puppet.

You won’t get anything other than another manager who acts just like Boone.

  6. I’m not a Yankee fan but Donnie Baseball is my childhood hero and that’s exactly why I hope this never happens.Mattingly is universally loved in New York and if he fails as a manager everyone will turn on him. His Yankee legacy is perfect. Just leave it alone.

  7. Could he? Sure. But given the reasons Girardi was fired, Mattingly wouldn’t make much sense. Mattingly was/is a hard-ass manager, and Boone was hired because he is the exact opposite of that.

  8. Once again the dumbest fucking debate imaginable returns for another installment. Mattingly sucks as a manager and I’m not interested in giving another member of Yankee history a go round just because we like him.

He was fired by the Dodgers for not being liked by the players and not a good teammate regarding analytics. He was fired by the Marlins because he created a toxic culture where vets ran the clubhouse and were allowed to hate on younger players (seriously go read the reports about how toxic and split the Marlins clubhouse was last year just because Jazz Chisholm was a fun young player). They got good the minute they fired him and hired a rookie manager.

Enough with this stupid idea. Mattingly doesn’t deserve to be Yankee manager on merit.

  9. So long as Cashman is gone then I’m fine with Mattingly coming in. But if Cashman is still here then any manager taking on the job is just set up for failure.

And to those who point to Mattingly’s coaching record must have forgotten what Torre’s was before he came to the Yankees. Also don’t forget when Mattingly was manager of the Dodgers he was caught in the middle of Kershaw shitting the bed every post season. How many managers do you know that could win a 5 or 7 game series when their ace, who is starting 2-3 games a series completely unravels?

  10. Mattingly is not a good manager. I don’t why his name always comes up for the ob. If Boone gets, fired, which if that’s done then Cashman needs to be fired as well, the replacement either needs to be a veteran manager that’s known for winning or a younger manager. I don’t see the point in changing managers if the front office stays the same. Problem isn’t Boone’s managing it’s the shit roster we have.

  11. I’m 100% for Donnie Baseball as Mgr, IF, and only if Hal grows a set and fires Cashman first. Otherwise he’ll be trying to get something out of a terribly constructed roster, and have to manage according to the analytic needs, and we’ll wind up blaming Don.

  12. Bring in Donnie Baseball as manager and Jeter as his bench coach and 83 yo Joe Torre as the GM!

  13. I mean if we’re going to be a mediocre team, might as well give the fans what they want and hire Donny Baseball.
