They desperately need a 1 year SP rental and a consistent bat. RP would help to.
Having said that I’m not sure how I feel mortgaging the future for a team in freefall. I would not trade Caminero, Mead, or Manzardo. Everyone else though is available for me
I bet we could pickup Amir Garrett for the cheap for bullpen help. Also JD Martinez is on a 1/10 deal, dunno if Dodgers are even shopping him and it would probably big a huge overpay on our end but it would be nice
I’m going to dream about Shohei some more
Trade back for Snell. Man has ice in his veins in big moments
Beef up the bullpen
1/2 starters, a reliever, and catcher. Piece from these packages (just people I can name).
Lorenzen + Lange + Jake Roger.
Salvador Perez + Scott Bartlow.
Marcus Stroman + Yan Gomes.
Bednar.
Cease/Kopech + Hendriks/Graveman.
Bard + Elias Diaz.
Can’t lose on an off day 🤙🏼
Baseball is fun.
That sentiment is helping me cope right now
I don’t want to mortgage the future for a run this year alone. I hope the Rays are careful with their trade ideas
Local Ray needs a break from losing. Hopefully we’ll get back to winning regularly this week.
Reds say they’re willing to trade India
Ik our infield is jammed with prospects, but could we deal Blowe and someone else for him?
He’s got a great chase rate and seems like a fairly consistent bat that we could use. His cost seems like it wouldn’t be too expensive, but you never really know
Three times they faced Bautista in this series and you’d think they would have a plan.
I understand even if you know it’s coming 100mph is hard to hit. But it’s harder if you swing at 59 feet forkballs.
Why is nobody telling them or the players themselves just ignoring any pitch that comes out of the hand in the lower end of the strikezone. If he paints 100 just above the knee well you’re out. But it seemed to me every fastball was belt or higher and every forkball hit the dirt.
I do not envy our front office staff right now, just 2 weeks ago I would have said trade it all for ohtani. Now, I don’t know if this team is worth investing in
Brakes my heart but this team is not the same rays teams we saw in the first 3 months, I don’t know if one guy or 2 new guys can get us going again
I’m still on the Ohtani train. He plays the game with such a passion that he might be the shot in the arm to get our guys energized again.
The Reds are apparently making Jonathan India available. Maybe the Rays move on from B. Lowe and look at the young middle infielder?
Are we going to use Margot as leverage?
Need a backend starter to chew innings and take pressure off of the bullpen. Giolito (isn’t back end but is the 4th best starter on this team) is the obvious target but might be more cost prohibitive to talk to the Cardinals about Jordan Montgomery probably would only cost a decent upper levels pitcher (Wilcox or Montgomery which i would like as that guts the Rays depth) and a throw in. With Josh Fleming trending back I would say to hold the line and wait for his return if teams start requesting the few good upper level SP prospects we have (Baz, Wilcox, and Montgomery). The goal with whatever trade occurs here is utilizing recent former prospects in Brujan or Aranda or trading depth players. Don’t overspend on a SP who is just eating innings and is unlikely to even make the postseason roster much less actually start games.
Bullpen is a little more tricky David Robertson is likely to be available but being the best relief pitcher available will be costly (Don’t know why the Rays didn’t go after Genesis Cabrera I trust Snyder could have fixed him) and would actually cost a piece that would be considered a longterm asset. Would rather see Colby White called up as well as Kitts return fill the need. Also Fairbanks, Kelly (other then that recent blowup has been lights out and has one of the more unique deliveries with the arm angle and extension creating a lot of decption) , Adam, Poche,Stephenson, Diekman (been great since the Rays acquired him), and Kitt would be a pretty great bullpen to roll into the playoffs with.
The big cost will be to acquire a usuable bat. With no obvious rental piece (Ohtani isn’t obvious because the Angels are idiots) the Rays will have to likely spend money on someone with control still and ideally could slot in at 2nd or 3rd or being part of the OF, DH rotation allowing Yandy and Raley to stay in the field, or a catcher. As far as who fits that bill who the hell knows. This deadline isn’t really clear outside of guys who wouldn’t provide actual big upgrades at positions of need (2B), would be in a loaded position (OF, DH mix) or players who likely won’t be moved (Perez and Ohtani). Really I expect the Rays go trot Curtis Mead out here shortly and see if he can take over at 2nd or add some offense in some way and do their usual addition by subtraction with the lineup. As only move to acquire a consistent bat will be very costly and I don’t think the Rays are moving Mead, Caminero, and Williams. So what ever Manzardo, Basabe, and whoever is left of the Arranda and Brujan duo can fetch is likely the best the Rays will do.
