Post “Mid 3” reflection thread.

What do you think went right, and what do you think went wrong? Also, what do you think would’ve led them to more success?

  1. Who’s the #1 option? Who’s the #2 option? That’s 1 part of what went wrong. Kuzma talked about having a cohesive team and how 5 guys knowing their roles was bigger than having 5 skilled guys.

Injuries factored in but also the rest of the team outside of these 3 not being able to score was part of the problem.

Our bench scoring was trash toward the end. That was part of the problem.

WUJ being a newer coach and his style being suited toward a veteran team rather than Beal & Lakers and other team leftovers was part of the problem.

A weak in person fanbase was part of the problem.
Beal’s lack of vocal leadership was part of the problem. Beal’s inability to turn that final corner into being THE guy was part of the problem.

  2. KP & Kuzma had the most productive seasons of their career. Beal looked good in spurts but missed 30+ games.

Not so fun fact: the longest stretch of consecutive games Beal put together last season was 19, from February 8th to March 21st. Dude just couldn’t stay on the floor. Beal played in 9 straight games to open the season, then missed 5 games, played in 3, missed 1, came back played in 6, missed 6, played in 5, missed 3, played in 1, missed 5, played 7, missed 2, played those 19 games I mentioned earlier then missed the last 10 games.

  3. They all played pretty good when together, when you look at most advanced numbers. I think Beal did a really good job lowering his usage and upping his shooting percentages compared to recent years. Porzingis did a great job all around just bouncing back and trying to get rid of his injury prone label, and kuzma also had a career year which is impressive considering he doesn’t have much plays called for him (obviously usage was up but he still improved as a player)

The unfortunate truth is just the lack of these 3 playing together consistently was the biggest issue. Obviously they weren’t gonna make some title run or anything but it’s really hard to be good when your mid 3 only played like 35 games together and one of them is usually hurt (looking at you Bradley even tho nobody wants to be hurt, but obviously all guys missed some time)

Aside from health, felt like there was a lack of identity/pecking order, team says Beal is #1 but kuzma has the ball alot on his hands, KP was prolly our best scorer last year but he’d often be phased out when clutch time came. Leadership wasn’t there and our coach didn’t really do a good job to make it clear for them or try to actually establish it.

All three are extremely talented players and i wish it worked out because i really like the trio, for reason said, it just sadly didn’t workout.

  4. I moved to DC and went to my first NBA game watching these guys. While I’m excited for the rebuild and agree it’s much needed… the nostalgia of the guys who played here when I first started watching will always stick with me.

These guys made me a fan.

  5. It was a frustrating and hilarious team. Glad they didn’t stick with it for multiple years even though I kinda saw the blueprint. The last couple of weeks before the all star break when everyone was playing super well was so fun. That road trip where they won 4 in a row starting with the clutch win in Dallas had me so excited. Then we had that comeback win in Minnesota where they looked locked in. For some reason after the break everyone looked tired and out of it. No idea what happened there.

  6. Lol, what a joke. The last, desperate, embarrassing gasp of an awful leadership group trying to save their jobs.

(I actually like KP and Kuz, they’re real professionals. And very arguably further exposed Beal as being a fake star.)

  7. I told myself going into the season that if Bradley Beal, our highest paid player and one of the highest paid players in the league, couldn’t get this roster into the playoffs(barring health to KP of all people), there is no longer any excuse I would accept for him.

Not only did we miss the playoffs, he couldn’t even get us to the play-in.
