Pretty unfortunate the two (non-Ohtani) top pitching free agents next offseason, Aaron Nola and Julio Urias, have regressed immensely this year. Would’ve been fun to do a reverse-Zack Wheeler by signing Nola.
I don’t care what they do with Verlander but next year’s plan better not be a punt year.
Personally I would keep him. Punt years for this team with this owner are not acceptable.
And this is why when you have a legit chance to win a World Series…YOU GO FOR IT. You don’t prospect hug and be passive and talk about saving .1 future value like Eppler talked about last year.
What a fucking disaster this has been since then.
If JV pitches well and then gets traded soon after, you *know* they’re punting ’24. I don’t know who’ll be available on the pitching end, but trading JV after just signing him this off season is crazy. To me, it would be a full on admission of organizational incompetence, with INEPTler the head. And until proven otherwise, prospects are just that – prospects. Lest we forget that guys like Gsellman and Dom were highly rated in this system. Oh, and anyone still foolish enough to still think Ohtani’s coming after this? Yikes…
