[Bk] Both Sem and Kloffenstein would’ve required 40 man roster spots this winter to avoid the rule 5 draft, so the jays got out in front of some winter roster clearing as well today.

  1. Probably would’ve kept one of them past the deadline BUT as Shi and others have said, they have a 40 man crunch.

  2. This makes the trade make even more sense. Lots of players to add this offseason and Hicks is a really good pitcher. Excited to see the heat out of the bullpen

  3. Wait, so keyboard warriors saying it’s a steep price didn’t consider other factors and just assumed it was a bad overpay?

  4. I knew Kloff was due for a spot for not Sem. Honestly this makes a ton of sense now.

  5. It’s a slight overpay if you use BTV (still accepted though), but the reality is trade deadline overvalues sellers and undervalues buyers.

While the losses feel big, if it means we get to keep a current 40-man guy or not lose others (or have room to Rule-5 Draft), we come out further ahead than we may think.

  6. 40 man crunch and kloff has fallen off since being on our top prospects list. I hope we retain Hicks though but that’s a heafty price tag for 104
