   Seems like the consensus is that bringing up a few isolated examples of slaves learning useful skills, runs against the general educational goal. As in, the fact that such examples are so rare ought to be part of the discussion on why slavery was so bad, instead of being part of a discussion on potential “benefits” the slaves received.

   Like…it’s a true fact that some slaves learned some skills, but the way the standards are contextualizing it is the real problem.

    nobody can read past a headline, it says one time out of the hundreds of mentions of how bad slavery was that some slaves, after they were freed, used skills they learned to make a living for themselves

    at no point do they say that people benefitted from slavery it’s literally insane how people just see a headline and run with it and go crazy over a literal nothing story

22. I just want to add this: They didn’t HAVE to do this. Not at all. They’re billionaires and could have used various shell companies to make this donation. They’re publicly flexing their muscles by stating that THE ORLANDO MAGIC are making this contribution.

    There’s lines you don’t cross in life. The workers (players, staff, countless folks behind the scenes you don’t know the names of) now are tied to such an announcement that may not align with their views. This is why corporations SHOULD NOT be involved in political affairs.

    This is gross for no reason. Could have easily just been “The Devos family support the Gov” and let folks figure out the rest from there.
