Brice Turang is EN FUEGO – And it’s for real

So this might be the best deep dive I’ve done yet, had a big look into what’s changed for Turang as of late, what mechanical adjustments he made since coming back up and how they’ve affected his swing, as well as the underlying metrics involved in it! I’ve got video’s and all in there so should be an easy read, and it really stands out

His quality of contact of late has been superb, and figured I’d share it here for you guys if you’re interested in why!

He’s not going to maintain an xWOBA of .510, but if he stays consistent at the plate, the Brewers have one helluva shortstop. He’s adapted at every level he’s been in the minors (usual pattern is struggle and a few months in, get on top of things) and it’s interesting that he’s generating some really nice pull power with that elegant stroke

His Strikeouts to walks have improved significantly since returning, when he was initially really struggling to make quality contact with anything. At least Wiemer hit fastballs, but his sequencing was too large basically in the load phase, and he couldn’t get his timing synced up

Also beginning to wonder if high leg lifts can ever work again given the velocity around these days

Let me know what you guys think!

  1. Great content as always! Looking forward to watching him closer now going forward with this in mind. Hope he keeps it up.

  2. Turang made an abrupt 180 from being one of those guys you dreaded seeing at bat because you knew they were a free out to being “Sweet, Turang’s up.”

  3. Nice write up! He’s definitely looked better at the plate since the A.S. break. Would be great if he can keep this up. Go Crew!

  4. Thanks for this. I glanced at the box score this morning and saw Turang’s average up to .225. I knew he’d been better at the plate, but a 20+ point jump at this point in the season is a pretty big deal. The detailed analysis behind the numbers was a great read. Don’t all the ball guys say that you can’t really assess a young hitter until they’ve amassed 500 ABs? Or is it 1,000?

We expected ups and downs this year with all the youth. With Woodruff and Miley back, the rotation is healthy, the young kids seem to be figuring it out offensively, and the acquisitions should help. Seems like it’s coming together at the right time. I still don’t think this is the team that is gonna break through and deliver a WS, but I am hopeful that we will be getting another bite at that damn apple.
