  1. I used to imitate Edinger’s corkscrew delivery in the backyard all the time as a kid. If memory serves me well, while he wasn’t great, he provided some much needed stability to the kicking position at the time, as the team was struggling to find a suitable replacement for Jeff Jaeger. I can’t remember which season it was, but I think Chris Boniol was the initial replacement and he had a *terrible* stint with the Bears, to the point where the Bears could’ve been 8-2 if not for missed field goals the season he played for us. This is mostly just head canon from what I recall watching Bears Sunday Live with Waddle and Corey McPherin back in the day, so I may be wrong on the exact specifics.

  2. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Bob Thomas for hitting that kick at the Meadowlands on a wet, icy field to put us in the playoffs in ‘78, I believe.

    Loved Edinger too.

  3. My best friend ruined Edinger’s career at the 2004 Bears Convention. Getting autographs from Paul Edinger, Justin Gage & Bobby Wade, my buddy asked Paul how he did it. Paul quickly replied “I don’t really know” and Justin Gage chimed in to say the kid didn’t even ask his question and that he should listen to him.

My buddy then asks Paul Edinger how he does it knowing that he can be the villian or the hero and it all depends on one kick that the entire city is watching. Paul responded with something along the lines of “never really thought about it that way”

2004 was his worst season as a Bear. He was released on May 23rd, 2005 and signed with the Vikings. He had a lackluster year with the Vikings and did not kick in the NFL again. I blame my best friend, Steve.
