For the haters of the Yzerplan

This is the opening roster for Detroit in 2020-21 vs where we are now. I know Yzerman started in 2019 but he didn’t really have much room to work with cause of Kenny’s incredible contracts so I went to when he really started to make some changes on the team. Larkin and Fabbri are the only ones that are still here (And Ras is now up). The projected starting line up was Bert/Larkin/Mantha, Fabbri/Vladi/Ryan, Mr SVECHNIKOOOOOV/Gagner/Zadina, Helm/Filppula/Glenny (love this line), then DK/Hronek, Staal/Nemeth, Merrill/Stetcher. I thought I’d give the projected line ups so we could get an idea for comparison. The line up we have now is better at every line on offense and defense.

Also the roster right now breaks down like this:

1 – Undrafted Player acquired by Yzerman that has played more then a year (Fabbri)
2 – Drafted players by Kenny (Larkin and Ras)
3 – Drafted players by Yzerman (Mo, Ray, Berger)
8 – Undrafted players by Yzerman that haven’t played yet
14 – players that haven’t played for more then a year acquired by Yzerman

18 players brought to the Wings by Yzerman within 4 years. 15 haven’t played for more then a year (new guys and Berger), 17 that haven’t played more then 2 years.

AND, we haven’t even made it to opening roster either.

Edvinsson could definitely push for a spot this year, he was awesome to watch towards the end of the season.

We could see Soderblom beat Fischer out, he’s the perfect size for fourth line and he definitely has the skill to be in the NHL.

Kasper will get most opportunities to come up when there are injuries if he doesn’t make the opening roster, this one I know for sure.

It’s late and I felt like ranting, but what we have now is miles ahead of where we were before Yzerman. We may not be a 1st place team but we are on the brink of being a playoff team.

  1. Barged was drafted by Kenny in 2018.

The way I look at it is Larkin and Ras are the only two players left who were on the roster during Kenny’s final year. Huge turnover

  2. I’m gonna let you in on a secret.

Yzerplan haters have an agenda that includes the red wings not being good. They try to undermine and find weaknesses in the plan in hopes to stop it from happening.

  3. I was pumped for Brome.

Seemed like an awesome off-season addition after missing out on some of the other undrafted Euro kids

Talk about a wet fart of a player

  4. It’s a better lineup, still not close to a legit competitive lineup of your goal is to go deep in the playoffs. Still have tons of chumps on this team but it takes town to develop young talent that can fill spots. Not Yzerman’s fault, he had nothing to work with and is building for the long term. They’ll be above .500 this year and on the edge of making the playoffs.

  5. I miss Nemestnikov! I know his spot is filled and improved, but that guy was infectious.

  6. There’s always going to be haters regardless of how good or bad we are. Some with a surface level knowledge don’t realize just how far Yzerman has brought us. A lot of people, especially younger folk in my experience, think being contrarian makes them smart. Some people don’t like the wings and like to stir up narratives with cherry picked stats.

Mo and Larkin get dragged for have no supporting cast and average underlying numbers

Stevie gets dragged for the rebuild “taking too long” and signing a few veterans to “bad contracts”

On the surface level, those things are true, but the people listed above don’t actually watch us and don’t care enough to learn more than what they can find from memory or from jfresh on twitter. It’s hard not to engage with those people, but it’s it’s not worth our time, since people who come to a hard stance on surface level knowledge, usually don’t care about facts, especially ones that disprove their narrative

  7. Love the drafting and a bunch of the trades but we need to see what Hronek, Bert, Mantha turn into since those are the big assets left by Kenny. Hronek and Bert are obviously pending but Mantha so far hasn’t worked but cossa and buchy are the big pieces were counting on. The unfortunate part is Bernier was been better than either Husso or Ned on a much worse team.
