**Horizontal axis:** How often a player is able to stop an opponent’s possession by removing the puck from them with a stick check, body check, blocked shot, or blocked pass
**Vertical axis:** How often when a puck is poked, jostled, or blocked loose that a player can recover it and turn the tables for their team in a positive direction
**Bubble size:** How often a player enters an even engagement for a loose puck with an opponent and comes out on the winning side (higher win rate = bigger bubble)
Malkin far and away better than his detractors would have you believe, underrated at every turn. You point out he still produces above a point per game, and they’ll say he sucks defensively, but here he’s rather close to Bergeron…would ya look at that!
I’m curious to know where Crosby sits on this chart. His defensive skills are super underrated.

Yeah, Ovechkin is an incredible goal scorer, but not really in the discussion for all time best forwards looking at these numbers.
