Anyone who thought otherwise is a chump. Tanner is the project QB Howie gets every other year. It’s cool he looks good but he obviously needs work.
We are switching up o lines mid game and obviously telling Mariota not to run at all and risk injury for preseason. Yes he looks like shit but he has to run to be his potential. Hopefully he never sees the game at all but McKee was simply not going to supplant him just cuz he looked pretty good against 4th stringers. We are ring chasing so if Hurts does go down even then we would probably sooner sign a FA QB than start a rookie. We ain’t the niners
To think otherwise is silly, they’re not gonna throw a rookie into the fire during a season with massive expectations if the starter goes down.
Mariota will get the first crack at it and he’ll have to be absolutely miserable for them to turn to McKee.
McKee starting against the Colts confirmed. They have to give him the chance at this point.
Regular season I think Mariotta is still #2 but his leash is going to be very very short.
I’d put Greg Ward at QB2 over Mariota

Preseason football is super misleading. The Paul Turners of the world or guys balling out in games with no game plan or starters playing is tough.
Marriotta gets the benefit of the doubt. McKee gets to be on the scout team. They’ll keep Ward and the other kid to mimic mobile qbs.
As good as Tanner it’s still too soon to trust him as QB2 of a SuperBowl contender
If the FO gets to the point they don’t think Mariotta can be a legit QB they’ll probably hunt down a vet QB to fill that role
The thing is, if Mariota goes in as backup in a regular season game and sucks, it’s very easy to give McKee a chance at that point.
Wait was this before or after Mariota thought our receivers were 20 ft tall? Or is he throwing air balls because it’s the preseason and during a real game against the teams starting defense he is going to throw lasers then. Yeah ok.
I actually heard Mariota had a decent week. But in both games so far he’s looked tragic. Dude is getting best out by every preseason QB I’ve personally watched outside of Book and maybe Lance lol.
Everyone saying we will just run the RPO with Mariota and be sweet know what the P stands for right? You have to have a semblance of a passing threat to make that a thing and so far he’s been horrific, even camp reports are terrible.
Sailing the ball constantly shouldn’t be something a 9th year QB is doing at this stage.
So its gonna be one of those things where the transition is a lot easier in game to Mariota because of the play styles. But let’s say the same injury last year happened you’d see McKee in there either the next week or at most 2 if Mariota continues to be this horrible.
Mariota with the 1’s goes better with the offensive scheme than a rookie with no mobility with the 1’s
They can always move Mariota when a QB goes down. Like they did with Flacco.
McKee played with the 3rd stringers vs Cleveland. If the Eagles were (or possibly are) giving serious thought to having McKee supplant Mariota as the backup QB, they would have given/will give McKee reps with the 2nd team.
Hate to say this….. remember when Sammy Sleeves looked like Joe Montana in the preseason? These games CAN be deceiving. (Personally I think Mariota is cooked)
Hopefully we never have to see Mariota in the regular season. I do like the emergency 3rd QB option this year so McKee is available game day.
The McKee thing is weird as hell because this is preseason and not at all indicative of him being able to play real snaps against starters. That’s why you’re all wrong.
Can Mariota be cut?
I would rather call up Cam Newton, Matt Ryan or Karpernick out of retirement and pay them $5 mil and see what they can do.
It’s a very important position. God forbid Hurts goes down week 17 on some stupid designed run.
We need SOME kind of insurance policy, and it’s not Mariota and it’s not a 6th round rookie.
Having to watch Mariota play football should be considered a war crime.

Eh I agree, it’s preseason🤷🏻♂️. Do I think Mariota is good, no. But he still fits our system, he can run. He will continue to study the playbook. And what is it a 1 year contract? I don’t remember, but if so, who cares even more. Look at the QB room in San Fran, what a mess. I believe in McKee too.
