  11. I THINK this is the right call. The offense just doesn’t move down the field like it does with Baker. He seems to have more command and control of the offense.

  12. It was close but the writing was on the wall after Baker didn’t play a snap during last weeks game. Just Get Mike his 1K and I’ll be happy.

  20. That’s fine. Either Baker will be bad enough to get benched at some point and then we can really see it Trask is better, or Baker will be good and we’ll get wins

  21. I really dislike this move but it was always going to be the choice when we signed him.

    Bowles has to save his job this season. Has the bias of coaching against and seeing trask at his worst (1st 2 seasons of camp) and that was going to be impossible to overcome for a guy needing to win now or be jobless in march.

    So Trask needed to be spectacular to win it. Like basically finish product.

    But here we are.

    Honestly, our defense is good enough (top 5 on paper) to win us the division. If baker doesnt lose games it will be fine. I am terrified that baker wants to prove something. We just need him to accept he is a piece and not the piece. The irrational part of my mind tells me he will be like Jameis and try to hero ball to his and our detriment. His best years were with a beastly run game where he was a piece and not the piece.

    So, if hes a ravens trent dilfer and our run game improves it will be a success.

    Personally. It makes a lot more sense to go with trask, see what you got, if hes ass, default to baker, and get a good draft pick.

    This smells of 6-6 and then losing 3/5 in the stretch and being pick 15. Like the good ole days.

  23. IMHO the bar is this for Baker:

    Get Evans his thousand yards. That’s it. We don’t have to be a playoff contender, though the NFCS is so open right now it’s just up for grabs. However, at the most basic level if he doesn’t get Mike his 10th consecutive 1k season we’re going to have a problem.

  25. Gator fans are gnashing teeth lol. Trask looked solid in one preseason game, not so good in the other. This is also the third preseason this staff has had to evaluate him so he is a known quantity. He wasn’t good enough to beat out Gabbert for QB2 the last two years and looked terrible in his one start last year. I like Trask as a young developmental QB but too many people here say he has a high ceiling… based upon what exactly? He doesn’t have a rocket arm and isn’t mobile or highly athletic. It’s not like we have a possible Patrick Mahomes on our bench.

  30. Absolutely the right call, and I say that as someone that kind of wanted Trask to win.

    I genuinely believe this is Mayfield’s last shot at becoming a franchise QB (here or somewhere else), and I think he knows it. Hopefully that will help him play a little better, and hopefully our offensive line isn’t so awful that he’s running for his life every other play (a la Carolina).

    I want to see this guy resurrect his career and keep the Bucs in contention for the playoffs, especially given how weak the division looks right now.

  34. Damn. I wanted to see what Trask had in him. If our only goal this season is to get Mike Evans 1,000 yards we should shoot for the stars and see what we’ve got in Trask. Dude could be a franchise QB if it turns out. We know what we’ve got with Baker unless he somehow does a complete 180 from his previous seasons and for some reason I doubt that will happen.
