  1. Bothered me more when it was unsure if he’d resign during his prime years. 4 years taking him into his 30s is more team friendly at this point.

  2. Both these players are better than any of the others especially New Jersey or Carolina. Who cares if you have a bunch of players making 7-8 when they’re inbetweener 1st and 2nd liners.

These two are game breakers when they’re on and I’d take them over all the others any day.

Just because they haven’t gone all the way doesn’t mean shit.

  3. So we’ve basically confirmed at least 2 years of Matthews and McDavid together starting in ’26.

    Our second wind.

  4. Don’t feed that troll. Can’t take him seriously as all he does is bait leaf fans. Muted him a long time ago.

  5. And his AAV is lower than it would have been (13mil Aav) if he signed for 8 years last contract. The equivalent of 9yr 12.3mil aav. I would argue it’s team friendly

  6. People looove to hate on the shorter term but also looove to complain that Taveres isn’t the player he was and is now over paid.

    I looove to hate people.

  7. Does Matthews think he can make more money by doing this instead of a 6 year deal or something.

  8. Mitch Marner… I wonder what city and country he’s from and did he have a favourite team growing up?

And if he ever wanted that favourite team of his to win the Stanley cup at all and how big an achievement that might be eh?

  9. I still haven’t seen much analysis of whether this is a good deal for us or not, just a lot of general complaining

I feel like if memory is correct and his first deal was like 12.5… and his 2nd is now 13.25 and we have him locked up for 5 years (final year of current deal + 4 years of new deal)

    I don’t think thats bad

He was going to get paid. Period. But he’s not earning the most in the league by a ton… we have him locked up for 5 years… its a valid point on both sides that he hasn’t been able to play a full season yet due to injury, so do we REALLY want to lock him up for 7-8 years?

I kinda think like Nylander – whose deal i HATED at the time but now seems like a bargain – that we are likely to see the same with AM34. The cap will go up, and 5 years from now its hard to believe that 13.25 will be the top salary in the league… so when CM and NM resign and earn more, AM’s deal starts looking like value.

I’ll be curious where we are at in 3 years. I think this contract feels good by then.

AND HE SIGNED IN THE SUMMER. A YEAR IN ADVANCE. We have to give credit where credit is due, we didn’t have to wait until the last minute and lose our minds about him walking for nothing or trading him for less than he’s worth. I always figured after his first contract he’d bail and go home to Arizona and live a quiet rich life but no, he just committed to the Leafs for 5 more years. Thats a good thing.

  10. Believe me when I tell you that the worst thing Steve Dangle has ever done is platform this potato
