Angels GM makes surprising admission about Shohei Ohtani injury

On Friday, Angels GM Perry Minasian revealed that the team had not done any related imaging for Ohtani’s arm until this past week. Ohtani had been suffering from arm fatigue and skipped his previous start on the mound before Wednesday. Minasian asserted that Ohtani had yet to complain about anything worthy of concern up until the scan.

“No (no imaging then),” said Minasian [when asked about imaging](https://twitter.com/AlbaneseLaura/status/1695193832072036850) prior to this week. “No, there was no arm issue – just fatigue, tired, cramping, dehydration.”

  1. Hopefully this is the kick in the pants the org needs to revamp the medical team.

  2. This makes me so angry. What is the “medical” team’s job, exactly, if not to make sure the players are healthy? Yes he’s Shohei & therefore gets a lot of (deserved) autonomy but it is their job to check these things out. If it’s nothing, great! But it wasn’t. F them.

  3. Team is incompetent. If they keep Nevin and Wise, it shows where this organization is at.

  4. This seems pretty standard though, and not just for the Angels. Teams tend to assume fatigue is fatigue and give rest. When that doesn’t help, or symptoms move elsewhere they investigate more and do more/better imaging. That’s why fans tend to joke every arm fatigue is TJ and get happy when it’s actually just arm fatigue.

  5. A lot of people in this thread have never taken a high school science class or touched a sport…. And it shows LMAO
