Elliotte Friedman on Halford and Brough discussing his Petey boat interview

Elliotte Friedman was on Halford and Brough this morning to talk about his Petey boat interview and other topics around the NHL. Some highlights of the interview:

– The full Pettersson interview will come out on opening night (BOO!! We have to wait til October!)

– He doesn’t think Pettersson saying he wants to wait to sign a new deal is a negotiating tactic.

– He thinks Petey truly wants to see what happens this upcoming season

– He says that Petey doesn’t think it’s a big deal to want to wait to re-sign. He doesn’t think people should get bent out of shape with him waiting to re-sign.

– Friedman doesn’t get the sense at all that Petey thinks the Canucks plan is terrible, that mgmt and coaching staff aren’t doing the right things etc.

– Petey agrees with Tocchet’s assessment that he needs to speak up more and that he will try to speak up more. Petey is careful with his words.

– Petey believes that true leadership is not what you say it’s what you do

– Petey is demanding of himself and expects alot of himself.

– Petey talked about some of his memorable games last season and how much he loved it when the fans chanted his name and how passionate the fans are. “It’s very meaningful for him”.

The Friedman interview starts in the 2nd half of the podcast hour and is defnitely worth a listen.

  1. He’s a competitor and wants to play for a contender. Plain and simple. He likes the city but he also knows what happens if the team doesn’t deliver (boos and jerseys thrown). I don’t blame him for not signing a new contract after the Benning regime and the fact that the current management hasn’t had the time to prove that they are able to turn this franchise around.

  2. Ugh I was thinking that interview would be out like this week. Gotta wait until October! This feels like the longest offseason ever lol.

  3. As the Hockey Guy says… if a player says they want to win and you get offended then that says alot about your team.

  4. I have a gut feeling pettey is gonna come out this year and evolve into the fucking terminator. He’s going to have a monster year and he’s most certainly getting PAID next offseason because of it.

  5. If Petey has another stellar year and the team fails around him, he has every right in the world to request a trade. Same goes for Hughes.

Young stars don’t deserve to have their brief careers squandered by bad management

  6. Halford and Brough are the best. Always ask the right questions and keep things light
