[Birkett] For Lions fans hoping the team acquires Bucs WR Mike Evans to help the receiving corps, Evans agent @DerykGilmore said in a statement today they will cease contract discussions Sept. 9 if no new deal is reached by then. Evans has been in camp, seeking a new deal so far no luck

  1. Dave i don’t give a shit what Lions fans want. Your job is to tell me if the lions are interested. This is such a lazy tweet just so he can drive his engagement up. This is a pointless tweet.

  2. Why is Birkett adding fuel to the fire if it was just a made up rumor? Could just be trying to get interactions or could something have actually been in the works dependent on contract negotiations

  3. If I understand correctly, we’ve still got a lot of cap space. If we can trade a later pick for Evans and offer him a reasonable (for both sides) extension through ‘24, is there a good argument for why we wouldn’t take a shot on him? I understand his age will keep him from being our long term guy, but—for our immediate needs—he seems like exactly the player we’re missing.
