CB boasts Jets’ defense can be ‘historical’ in ’23

JJ is the X factor for this defense. If he looks as good against starters as he did in preseason this defense could be #1
Okay let’s pump the breaks juuuuust a tad haha. As the article points out, we weren’t even the #1 rated Defense last year (yes I know, offense being horrible did them zero favors). So let’s maybe shoot for that, hope we stay healthy, and worry about making the playoffs before we worry about being an all time historic Defense.
Also, good on Mosely for backing up the boys but also staying grounded. Can see why he was voted captain.
My homer take is I think he might actually be right
But I would absolutely pump the breaks on this kind of talk until the Jets prove they can do it on the field – this is still a loaded division and conference and they are coming off a 12 year playoff drought
DJ needs to cool his jets
While it may be possible, with the offense being (hopefully) much better, teams will be forced to score more and they know it.
The hopes I have are like 2016 again….I’m scared
I’m happy D.J. and JFM are excited but I appreciate Mosley’s comments most of all. Gotta walk the walk first. I also want the Jets 2023 defense to be historic but it’s a lot to lay on top of the team before game one.

Historical means concerning history/past events. Historic is something momentous/important.

No it can’t. The league is skewed toward offense, no chance for that sort of defense anymore.
I think they can be top 5 at best.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised. Whenever coach Hackett joins a team or gets promoted the defense gets wayyyyyy better. It happened in buffalo, Jacksonville, Green Bay, and Denver. Plus our defense is young. Just stop playing that soft zone. Bend but don’t break is okay but we need some more aggression.
Love that he and probably the locker room has confidence and believes it but lets worry about getting through the first 7 games before making bold proclamations to the media. Because you know every opposing offense is going want to throw this line back at the Jets if the defense has a bad day.
Quiet, play first, talk after!
Just to even be in a position where DJ isn’t laughed off the face of the Earth for this kind of comment is nice. Sure it’s too early for this kind of talk and pretty unlikely we can reach that level of history, but the fact we have a group that makes it possible and has the belief in one another to get there? Awesome.
I’m pumped but let’s also pump the brakes a bit. I sure hope he’s right.
