[Milliken] Marcelo Mayer (SS), Nick Yorke (2B), and Chase Meidroth (3B) were all voted the best defenders at their position by league managers. Considering the defensive struggles the Red Sox have gone through, it’s nice to see the opposite on the farm

Bright spots in our farm system. Hopefully the days of the bad news bears defense will be gone sooner rather than later.
Chase Meidroth has been an interesting prospect to follow, especially as a 4th rounder. I love [Soxprospects.com](https://Soxprospects.com) but they did him dirty with his prospect action photo.
Yorke being mentioned is a pleasant surprise to me. I thought there were questions on him sticking as a defender at 2B.
It’s funny because SoxProspects has Yorke as a fringe-average defender.
Funny that fangraphs has Yorke as a 30/40 field… Super happy with his bounce back 2023 season. I could see him in Boston mid 2024 if he continues to show improvement
According to SP these awards are a little silly, managers who vote on them don’t really see that many players given how scheduling works and you can win with like 3 votes.
Nonetheless, it’s certainly better than not winning the award.
I think it’s worth pumping the brakes a little here, this is just Eastern League and not AA as a whole, plus it’s voted on by managers rather than actual evaluators. It’s not really a minor league manager’s job to have a deep eval of everything a player on another team does well, and looking like a potentially competent MLB defender is probably above average for the level. Still a good sign, though.
