[Lomnardi] With Nick Bosa’s new deal: -The 49ers have $42m in 2023 cap space -The 49ers are $40m over the projected 2024 cap -All unused cap rolls over, so SF is currently in position to make ends meet for 2024 without having to cut any players

-All unused cap rolls over, so SF is currently in position to make ends meet for 2024 without having to cut any players
-Yes, the 49ers can trade for someone this year and still be good for 2024 since more sustainable restructure opportunities still exist

A masterclass in financial management from Paraag Marathe and Brian Hampton + willingness to spend from Jed York and Co. == 49ers in excellent salary-cap shape.

They’ve actually used the Nick Bosa mega-deal and concurrent transactions to catapult themselves into a good 2023 and 2024 cap outlook

49ers’ salary-cap hits for Nick Bosa with the new contract. Bosa’s $52m cap hit in 2027 is the second-largest of any non-QB behind Tyreek Hill’s $56.3m in 2026:

2023: $11.01m
2024: $14.7m
2025: $20.5m
2026: $42m
2027: $52m
2028: $42.9m
2029 (void): $5.8m

  1. 52M for nick bosa in 2027 is crazy

But by then John lynch will probably be out as GM. And they have money to play with for a trade or roll over. Good spot to be in

  2. I’m officially not sure what the purpose of all the restructures was, then. The extension actually lowered Bosa’s 2023 cap hit from the 5th-year option.

  3. TBH, this seems like a little bit of good insurance for the season in case of injuries and the need to trade or bring someone in, not that they have something specific in mind. And of course roll over to be under cap for next season. Front office making great moves, and I am here for it!

  4. But wouldnt they have that already by not making these changes? Why not clear up room next year if you can do this now?

By doing it now they’ve created larger dead cap if they have to cut for some reason

    None of this makes sense

  5. Let’s not forget all of the dead cap money from Dee Ford, Trey Lance, Jimmie Ward, and Alex Mack that goes away after this year. Looks like we won’t have too hard of a time extending Aiyuk

Edit – oops, Trey Lance will still hit us on some dead cap BS.

  6. IN PARAAG WE TRUST – Niners have been on the better side of managing, negotiating, and extending in a fiscally responsible manner while he’s been here.

I remember idiot fans bringing out pitchforks immediately post-Harbaugh because some thought he was one of the leakers that brought down that regime – but he’s been here since and not a peep.

He’s been directly responsible for being able to field the talented team we’ve enjoyed under Lynch and Shanahan without living in cap hell constantly.

Niners better make sure he’s paid well so that he never moves on.
