What do you all make of this random pull up 3 by Fultz at the end of the season? You have 43 year old Haslem hedging the screen with plenty of time left on the clock. Weird part is none of his teammates really reacted to it..

  1. Nothing particular about this shot. But I’m confident that this year we’ll see a lot more of it. Wouldn’t surprise me if he shot around 35% on like 5 attempts this year. Seems like he’s really intent on adding jt back to his game

  2. This shot is a lot different than just about 99% of his other 3 attempts. With Fultz having a nerve injury to his R shoulder it has taken him longer to gain control and strength with control with higher intensity pushes. A mid-range shot of his is pre-injury shooting form. He can fade at this strength. With a shot requiring more strength in high flexion of the shoulder/arm (overhead) like a 3, he has to find his “best” form for his team/the game. It makes sense that he wouldn’t have strength in overhead movement compared to lower, so he has been shooting kind of from the hip. This is normal for someone with a shoulder injury.

This particular 3, and I think maybe one or two others towards the end of the season is a bit different onfl form. He gets the strength assist from the pull-up compared to a set 3, which were the bulk of his 3 attempts last season. This extra leg assist and lift allowed him to shoot this with his mid-range form. Notice how he jumps towards the hoop some as well.

I’ve been defending Fultz and what he’s delt with regarding his injury for a while. It makes sense he’s slowly and slowly showing consistency back to his old self. The Magic training staff has killed it with him. I think they have the right idea with JI, I’ve commented my case for his rehab before, but I think his work ethic is a fraction of Fultz’s.

I’m a physical rehab professional super nerd and big magic fan. Just my personal opinion from what I’ve witnessed…

  3. Also not exactly random there was one other time his 3pt shot looked like that toward the end of the season

  4. I think lack of reaction may be because they see him shoot pullups in practice often so they aren’t surprised, most players aren’t taking shots in game that they aren’t nailing consistently in practice. so hopefully that means his off the dribble is looking decent in the gym.
