As far as how this will affect the Lakers, they can seek approval for LeBron to skip playing in one of two back-to-back games based on the rule that allows for pre-approved designated back-to-back allowances for players who are 35 years old on opening night or have career workloads of 34,000 regular-season minutes or 1,000 regular-season and playoff games combined. And teams can supply written information to the NBA explaining why players are unable to play in back-to-back games with at least one week’s notice, which the team almost certainly would have done for AD last season not playing in back-to-back games because of his foot problem.

  1. The back-to-back exception doesn’t exempt LeBron for the rest of the rules though. If anything, LeBron getting exemption from sitting back to backs would result in AD playing more games because AD would have to play (assuming he’s healthy).

  2. Couldn’t Bron just check in for like 1 minute of game time and then sit the entirety of the game?

  3. Honestly this “new rule” shouldn’t be much of a problem if GMs and teams handle this smartly and strategically. Simply put, we should expect the Lakers to exaggerate any and every single minor bump/bruise Bron and AD get. We have already (smartly) been listing them as consistently questionable for a while now. That gives us plausible deniability if we choose to rest them.

However, we need to CLEAN UP the operations around this process. For example, Darvin Ham and team personnel should be instructed to exaggerate/play up any injury Bron and AD have. They should always cast doubt on their status and be vague in press conferences or interviews. Messaging has to be consistent.

I anticipate most smart NBA teams to handle this new rule fairly easily with smart, clean, and consistent strategy. We shouldn’t be too worried because as long as teams operate carefully, this “rule” should have minimal impact

  4. Okay so I’m just gonna let bron and AD start the game then intentionally foul on the first possession and sit them out the rest of the game. They’re shoe laces won’t even be tied.😂😂
