Lucas Patrick ranked 31 out of the 32 centers that played in the first week of the season according to pff, at what point do we start holding Poles accountable for his free agency additions?

I have never seen a center give up pressure as quickly as he does, I started to miss Musty half way into that game(and I hated musty)

  1. I’m not there yet with it only being the start of year 2 for Poles.

Either way Patrick is pretty low on my list to go after him for. He was supposed to be a low level patch for last season that turned back up this year. He’s playing because of injuries.

  2. It’s not like we gave him a massive deal

We gave him a 2/5 million dollar deal basically, chump change. He was depth on the Packers and he was supposed to be depth here and maybe prove himself worthy of being a starter.

Yea he sucks, oh well. We’re not paying him big money, and he’s going to be gone next year

  3. Pretty sure he’s the 3rd on the depth chart for center behind Whitehair and Kramer, so this isn’t surprising. I’d expect Feeney to be starting soon.

  4. To be fair Sam mustipher was a back up last weekend. So while not very good there has been a smudge of improvement. Still I’d like to see MUCH better *cough* Whitehair at centre

  5. The fuck you want us to do, march to Halas Hall and demand his head? GMs are going to make mistakes but firing them after 2 offseasons is not great for long-term stability.

I mean jesus christ Howie Roseman drafted Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson and gave Carson Wentz $100 million dollars, and he’s still their GM and widely regarded as one of the best in the NFL. Gotta let GMs have a longer leash.

  6. I started worrying about the moment we went DB-DB-gadget player in the first draft. Our refusal to invest actual resources into the interior offensive line is going to keep hurting us.

  7. Patrick was supposed to be a backup to start the season and is on a small contract. You also can’t judge a GM for losing while they are clearly not trying to win.

  8. This sub may not realize it, but Poles isn’t trying to win right now. He never was. Last year was Poles deconstructing the team Ryan Pace left him with. An aging team, basically no young talent, and a lot of expensive contracts for aging players.

Every move Poles has made so far has given him a stockpile of draft picks. The contracts he’s handed out were to guys he felt would be here for his rebuild or are for 2-3 years with options for the team to get out of after 2 years.

It sucks because we are all hoping for the best case scenario: all the young guys turn into something within 2 years, but realistically that wasn’t going to happen with all the holes in the lineup. The ship definitely hasn’t sailed yet, but Pole’s plan is to build in the draft. That means his “window” wouldn’t open until 2025 since it would give him 3 draft classes to develop and another class to plug holes with.

  9. I’m not sure Poles planned to have to start his 3rd option at center the second year in a row. The only thing I’m genuinely disgruntled about with Poles is the Claypool trade which I’m hoping I am wrong about by end of the year. I understand the context of it, but it wasn’t great then and looks way worse now.

To add in some other rankings.
    – Braxton Jones ranked as the #1 (tied) OT for Pass Blocking week 1.
    – Darnell Wright ranked as the #1 rookie OT, #12 overall.
    – Roschon Johnson ranked as the #2 rookie RB between Gibbs and Bijan.
    – Tyrique Stevenson tied for #3 rookie CB
    – Zacch Pickens was the #3 Rookie DT behind Benton/Carter.

A GM is going to have hits and misses, For me it’s to early tp judge Poles harshly looking at the overall rebuild he had to take on. I think he did the smart thing this off-season at QB in using the #1 overall pick to turn into Wright, DJ Moore, Tyrique Stevenson, and whatever the Panthers future 1st and 2nd become. We are in a perfect spot if Fields doesn’t step up to draft a QB in one of the best QB classes of the last 30 years and actually support him day 1.

  10. How much worse can Feeney be than this dude? Every time has has played, be it at LG or C, he has been terrible.

  11. By the way, the worst center? John Michael Schmitz (PFF 42.8), who everyone wanted Poles to draft (granted, only his first game).

  12. I love this. This sub dogged Mustipher all last year and off season like Patrick was the second coming of Kruetz.

  13. Lol, bro Patrick is bad. But Mustipher was literally blocking air down the field or bumping into his teammates half the time. Dude should never see the field, shit dude shouldn’t even be allowed on a NFL Practice Squad. No one is worse than Mustipher.

  14. I’m waiting for Crathsor to jump in and tell us how Patrick did a great job considering everything and it’s more than one person who wins or loses games.

  15. Literally every GM misses on free agents and draft picks. Patrick was ALWAYS a stop gap/depth piece. If Teven was healthy Patrick would not be playing. Y’all act like Poles has had 5 plus years of fucking up. In reality he only had 1 off season where he had significant resources to work with. So to answer your question, If this time next year Edmunds, Edwards, and Davis all look like terrible pickups, then we can start talking.
