Tank for Caleb.
Realistically looking at our schedule we could lose out with maybe wins against the Bears and a split with the Chargers because we always do.
Agree we need to rebuild, disagree that it should be “in Payton’s image,” so far he hasn’t shown himself to be any less of a washed up has been than Wilson
It’s so strange. George Paton made moves that made sense at the time but the results are just not there. Is there a GM available that will actually be better than him?
George Paton has been a massive flop.
This is the sad truth..
I don’t blame Paton. The cupboard was bare when elway left. Paton added lots of talent through the draft but injuries have been an issue and it takes time for young rosters to get up to speed.
The team hasn’t regressed the defensive has turned to dog shit (expectedly) under Vance Joseph. I do agree this roster is not built for SP, and we’ve got some major holes in the roster. We are several pieces away from competing and by the time we get a roster that can support a game managing quarterback ( which Russell will be in a few years) Wilson’s Salary will hamper us.
Trading for Sean hasnt exactly helped either. Thats what happens when you mtg your future for a qb/coach and have to draft from scraps for 3 whole years.
Courtland sutton fell off a cliff, we can’t draft or find a tight end that can stay healthy a full season, Tim Patrick’s faced back to back devastating injuries, and honestly jeudy hasn’t lived up to his expectations/hype either.
Mix in an aging quarterback who just doesn’t seem to have the hunger/talent, or even the leadership, and it’s just all bad.
Rebuild rebuild rebuild
Exactly this is what I’ve been pounding the table for. This team reminds me of the Avs teams that had to endure some truly miserable seasons and hit on some of those high draft picks to become relevant again. We’ve been stuck too long in the middle of the pack or whiffed on those high picks.
BLOW IT UP!
Here’s the thing fellas… yes, they are losing. BUT, they are showing a ton of promise in those loses. We are on week 2 of 18. From EVERYTHING I am seeing my guy is telling me, we will improve! I’m definitely excited for this season!
Edit: Fuck ALL ya’all for downvoting my positivity. Go be negative ass holes somewhere else
SP will be fine, its really the defense. I think SP came in thinking it would be a strong point but so far it has been a liability. Expect massive overhaul in the offseason
Ill still pound the table for a lot of negligence this offseason. Jeudy should have been flipped for a pick that our roster desperately needs now, we should have been way more worried at CB2 in the offseason and trading such valuable assets for a coach was a huge blunder.
Blow it up!
There was a massive misevaluation of the roster situation. This team is going to have a high pick in a stacked QB draft. They have to get their guy for the future and begin to build around him this offseason. It sucks to say but this team is almost certainly 3 years from the playoffs at best
It’s really hard for me to believe that an NFL GM looked at the Broncos roster and thought…. If we get Russell Wilson, we are going to contend.
George Paton should have been fired in the off season!!!
Siri, play “sad but true” by Metallica
When you’ve had 5 head coaches in 7 seasons, the roster reflects that. Time to actually rebuild this under one vision.
Goddamn y’all are so negative. Wait until this season is over before thinking of all these big decisions
The roster has never been that talented in the post-Peyton Manning era, the fan base and front office is just delusional
Again 308yrds 3tds 1int 107rating isn’t an offensive issue.
I think we have to finally admit that we are not close. We are not only a few moves away. We don’t just need one player here or there. We are old, injured, overpaid, and just bad. We need to clear house however much as possible and focus on reshaping the talent on the roster.
Idk if Payton is the guy long term, but at least he knows how to win or build a winning culture, so he’s the best we have rn to spearhead it to an extent.
Not having a lot of 1st round draft picks, missing on those picks we do have, making bad free-agent signings, and having injury-prone players will eventually result in what we have now… a talent deficiency. Consistently shitty coaching doesn’t help either.
The shear fact that they gave Russ a huge contract before even playing a full season was a huge mistake that Denver will pay for years.
Who the f thought it was a good idea to bring in VJ for DC? Was it SP? If so why?!? Why would anyone want to hire that lousy pos. Defense was the only reason we have had chances to win games the last few years. Now it’s just going to be a shitshow. Blow it up. Trade Jeudy and Sutton.
Offensive line and defense is the problem. Russ had a nice game considering he had to run for his life all afternoon.
The fact is this team is haunted by the previous GM. We missed on lots of good players like Quentin Nelson, Ryan ramczyk, Justin Jefferson and Cede lamb. I really don’t need to mention all the qb failures but you kind of have to. I think we all overrated our WR room and viewed the roaster with rosy glasses.
The fact is that this team isn’t very good. But we have also been decimated by injuries but how much longer can we keep making that excuse.
The VJ hire had been nothing short of a debacle and even Simmons looks out of place. I’m not sure there is a quick fix. The season isn’t lost but it’s not looking great. Next week is a must win
That’s been the problem. The fans and the organization clearly kept thinking this team was just a QB away. Team ain’t been a QB away since 2016
Totally agree. George Paton is done and we need to get away from Russ. The front office ruined at least 5 years for the franchise with that trade.
We need to a proper rebuild. Russ needs to be gone and we need to start drafting and developing
I’d rather just keep all the draft picks and lose with a rookie instead of losing with an overpriced old QB.
We’re possibly a better offense but worse team somehow than last year. The roster was overrated and if they blew it the fuck up I really don’t think I’d care. Maybe be sad to see Simmons go, but since you’d likely keep all the rookie contracts everyone else can get lost.
I fully believe Paton would have rebuilt this roster from the ground up through the draft, especially after firing Vic Fangio.
The availability of an aging, unhappy veteran star QB like Russ or Rodgers gave Paton a “shortcut” that allowed him to skip that rebuild.
The reality is this… we’ve been operating like a perennial playoff team since SB50. We think we’re just a “QB away” and frequently spend a lot of money in FA to quickly band-aid weak spots. So we’ve wasted a ton of cap on mediocre free agents and sacrificed draft capital for Russ, and more for Sean Payton (to maximize this window with Russ).
Our front office’s expectations since 2016 have not matched the actual talent level on this roster. We’ve had our original picks land in the top 10 FOUR times since 2018, yet we refuse to accept that we’re “rebuilding”. I know that term and “tanking” are forbidden words around any fanbase… but look at the consistently great teams in the NFL – they rebuilt through the draft.
A shortcut to success was the last thing this talent-deprived roster needed, especially coming off of the last few years of Elway drafts. Russ was a massive gamble and we felt like it was going to pay off (even today gave us hope) – but ultimately it robbed us of the opportunity to add franchise cornerstones and young talent with cheap, team control for 4-5 years. Seattle added a franchise OT and franchise CB with our top picks from the last 2 years. Carolina took Jaycee Horn in 2021 while having no real QB on the roster (sound familiar?) and they took the route to rebuild and they added Bryce Young and have a stable, experienced coaching staff with Frank Reich and Evero.
Teams have moved into the future, we staked our future on Russell Wilson, Mike McGlinchey, and Randy Gregory… let’s hope we can lock down PS2 for a long time because he’s one of the few bright spots on this team.
Hate to say it but the WR corps we’ve been creaming ourselves over for the last 5 years isn’t as great as we thought. Our O-line needs to be completely revamped. We need a genuinely great LB corps that is capable of disrupting an offense again instead of just racking up tackles. We need some defensive lineman that can penetrate the middle of the offense line. And finally, we need a great QB, just like every other team in the NFL needs. Whether that’s Russ or not will be known by the end of the year.
The Broncos have been trying to assemble a competing team each offseason and all it does is force us to commit to players that aren’t good enough to build a core around. We can probably trade Courtland Sutton or Jerry Jeudy for a pick or two along with either Josey Jewell or Alex Singleton and let Drew Sanders get some experience. I’d absolutely love to get something in return for Kareem Jackson (we should’ve let him go a long time ago) and just build a brand new young roster that Sean Payton wants.
We’re working with a roster that was built by Vance Joseph, Vic Fangio, Nathaniel Hackett, and Sean Payton. There isn’t a vision here. We have a Frankenstein’s monster of a roster and keep forcing the next guy to try and fix it. We should probably let Sean Payton get some guys he thinks can fit in his vision.
We are paying an average QB elite wages that never goes well
FIRE VANCE JOSEPH
This roster is lacking, how the hell do the Broncos move on from Wilson, is it two years of being in the gutter, this and 2024 and his entire salary is off the books in 2025 but damn 2024 will be rough. He doesn’t have the Russell in him any more we all saw running around making plays. His weight loss hasn’t helped, he seems slower in the pocket, never wants to move up within it, only east west, backwards and he isn’t that guy any more. We’re fucked for the next two years with him and this defense.
Blow that shit up. Do it. Seriously. Only untouchables are Jeudy, Williams, and Surtain.
Would it be fair to say we haven’t drafted actually productive receivers since Thomas and Decker? That feels like many lifetimes ago…
