Kind of confused by “no new money, money’s moved forward”. I’ve seen numbers on the increase on the years through 2027. Sportrac breaks it [down here](https://twitter.com/spotrac/status/1703864913859408042?t=DfyrnQQCM1a2RJo_vsz5Aw&s=19):
2023
Was: $40.45M
Now: $56.85M (+$16.4M)
2024
Was: $37.95M
Now: $44.5M (+$6.55M)
2025
Was: $41.95M
Now: $50M (+$8.05M)
2026
Was: $41.95M
Now: $56.76M (+$14.81M)
2027
Was: $59.95M
Now: $59.2M (-$750k)
So does that mean the last few years ~45 million lowered? Reports seem contradictory.
Edit: have seen a few people use the “move forward” language” in regards to the money. Obviously it sounds like the later part of the contract would be subject to a raise when they renegotiate in 2026, but for now this sounds like it’s technically, and I mean *technically*, just a money reshuffling and not a flat raise. Obviously it probably leads to that.
Love this move a lot more now
I feel we need to know whether that 44mil has any new money or not to know what to think of this.
On the plus side, there is an obvious effort to clear money in 2024, presumably to resign Jones.
So where is the 16mil coming from this year? They’d need to clear 14mil somewhere.
all well and good for me who doesnt understand NFL cap, my only question is what does it do for us this year and next when the cap is expected to get much larger?
Can’t say I’m a big fan of this given we had him under contract for like 8 more years and now it’s only 4
So he gets a ton of money now and then renegotiates for more later? I mean yes pay him but now we can’t sign anyone?
So how much cap space do we have now for this year?
I thought he said he would prefer Brady’s approach?
When we were talking about the chris jones contact, I was told by very smart people on this sub that all that matters is new money and old money means nothing. Therefore pat is playing lying the next four years for free.
Hopefully this deal doesn’t damage the team’s ability to keep high quality talent up and down the roster. As great as Mahomes is, we all saw in the Superbowl what can happen if the talent pool on the team around him isn’t good.
