I posted this here because this channel just said EVERYTHING that I wanted to say in a long rant like post.
Baker is doing things that I REALLY LIKE, but he is also missing some things here that make me scratch my head and go “what?” Nothing catastrophic, game altering as it involves the 2 missed TD opportunities but that’s about it.
He also covers the “Baker Magic” where it looks like a sack and he just jukes the hell out of the rusher. He also covers that “flash” I was talking about where he sidearm tossed the ball to Otton while being tackled so instead of a loss or no gain we got 6 yards, that was just excellence.
Watch this video, its really well done and you can see how Bowles was correct, he is not asking Baker to “build the engine, just drive the car.” Canales is scheming up stuff for Mayfield to maximize his performance and so far its “cooking up wins”.
Edit: I guess I am going to rant….
What we see here is TRUST, trust between the WR’s, QB, and TE’s. This is what was wrong during the pre-season, and we saw some of it left against the Vikings. Hopefully this trust continues to build and carries over into our game against the Eagles.
Lets take a quick painful stroll back to the Winston days… Winston was known for just putting the ball up in the air and saying “fuck it, Mike is out there somewhere”, for all the good it did. Winston did that because he trusted Mike would likely come down with the ball.
Mayfield is currently doing the opposite of Winston (thankfully), and is showing composure and trust in multiple offensive weapons. He is also starting to trust Trey Palmer, and Cade Otton more now as well due to their performances against the Bears.
