Kayvon vs Aidan Week 2 Reps

Just wanted to share these two videos of Aidan Hutchinson’s reps vs Kayvon’s. From watching both of these, it appears Aidan is playing with a much higher motor and effort than KT. It also looks like KT solely sets the edge and has one move – the bull rush which just does absolutely nothing for him due to him being undersized.

SOLELY FOCUSING ON PLAY there is a clear difference in effort. I’m comparing these two because they were selected 4 picks apart. Regardless if we couldn’t pick Aidan this is a clear example of KT not playing up to an NFL level like you would expect out of a first round pick.

Aside from that, let’s focus on week three and hope he plays like we know he can.

  1. I don’t understand the point of comparing two players that don’t play against each other that play in different defenses and are asked to do different things. But that’s just me.

EDIT: This just posted on BBV.

*Martindale has referred to Thibodeaux as a “can opener” who helps everyone else be successful because of the many things he can do. Thibodeaux is often tasked with dropping into coverage as Martindale blitzes from elsewhere, or barreling into linemen to clear a path for someone else…*

*Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions, a player Thibodeaux is often measured against, has dropped into coverage three times while rushing the passer 88 times this season.* ***Thibodeaux has rushed 10 times vs. what PFF defines as true pass sets, while Hutchinson has rushed 54 times in those situations…***

***Usage and opportunity are obviously real things when it comes to Thibodeaux’s numbers. Detroit uses Hutchinson differently, as more of a conventional pass rush-first edge defender, while Martindale uses Thibodeaux in a larger variety of ways, with pass rush only being part of his job.***

  2. bruh why do people say Kayvon is undersized? He’s an OLB and Watt and Mack are literally shorter and lighter than him.

  3. KT is frustrated. He was the only person who was showing zero energy on the sideline in the Sights and Sounds video the Giants released.

One good game can turn it all around. Let’s go KT!

Big Cat needs to step up too. I feel bad for Azeez but this should be his last year as a Giant and he should be a cut candidate next year if he has another 7 game season, which I bet he will. Not worth it. Go Giants.

  4. His work ethic, motivation and “inconsistent motor” were all questioned even before he was drafted. Nobody should be surprised that he looks like he’s not trying half the time.

  5. The 5th pick comes with scrutiny, attention and expectation. However, the “bust” label doesn’t add up for me as a fan and hard to me to understand with some of the big plays last year. I am in the camp that saw flashes and hopes he develops.

Of course, been paying attention to all the arguments about KT and his potential/effort/use etc…
I saw something that said the defense has only faced 13 true pass sets (true?) this year because Dallas and Arizona could run all over the defense and hit all kinds of RPO plays- no need to drop back and put the QB and ball at risk. Plus Kayvon already dropped into coverage 13 times in 2 games.

The comments he made this week about the fans seems to show how much the fan base doubting him is impacting his day to day.

On the hope train for the Defense and Kayvon

  6. I never understood posts like this.

I understand Kayvon hasn’t been great this year, but I don’t know why putting him next to tape of Hutch matters when we never could’ve had Hutch.

I don’t see how this is any different than if I posted highlight tape from Myles Garrett’s second year and said “hey guys look, this guy is an all-pro in Year 2, and Kayvon Thibodeaux isn’t, doesn’t Myles Garrett look less lazy when he hits the QB all the time?”

What’s the actual point? We never could’ve had Garrett as a giant, just like Hutch was never available to us.

Also if we really want to split hairs, Hutch has 0 sacks in 2 games, is he a bust too? Travon Walker got 1 sack this year, is he a star?

Leonard Williams is just as much a former first rounder as Kayvon and looks even worse to me. He’s also paid a shitload more. I don’t get why a whole defense with zero sacks seems to be all Thibodeaux’s fault in this sub lately.

  7. If you don’t think that’s a fair comparison I can give you a good one. Compare Thibs to any defense end in the league. They all play harder than Thibs.
They are all more motivated than Thibs.
95% of them get to the quarterback better than Thibs.
90% of them tackle better than Thibs

Thibs is near the bottom of the league when it comes to players at his position

  8. You don’t need to compare numbers or pull up irrelevant advanced stats. All you need to do is look at Thibs play to see the obvious. He either doesn’t have or use that extra gear. It’s plain as day and unacceptable for a top draft pick. Those are the guys that are supposed to be game changers. No offense in the NFL is scared of Kayvon Thibodeaux. They don’t have to do much to neutralize. TOP 5 picks are supposed to be the best of the best. The top talent in the country. It is very fair and justifiable to question wtf we ended up with.

  9. Sometimes wish Wink had some Spags in him – a focus on scheme and system is fine, and so is building around your players strengths and putting them in a position to succeed.
