[Ryan Heath] NFL fans all think their team has a bottom-5 offensive line that allows too much pressure. Who does? Top-right = few pressures and frequent first read throws Bottom-left = lots of pressure and few first read throws – Packers make Love’s job easy – Bryce Young is in rough spots

  1. Just thought I’d share for every comment and post I see in game threads that says “Tannehill stares down his targets” or “Tannehill isn’t looking at so and so”

Like I say in the threads these are on purpose it is meant to offset the poor pass blocking and most of them are by design. Tannehill isn’t just saying “hey fuck burks or Chig” we don’t run the Chiefs offense where it’s “hey Tannehill go run around until someone gets open and throw it up to them” because we don’t have the QB-WRs-OL for that type of football.

Most of our pass plays are designed to get a specific person open and for Tannehill to hit them in the specific window when they get open which means “staring them down” as everyone refers to it or as it’s correctly called a first read throw. He’s not meant to go through a 4 target progression every pass play. He usually has 1 read and a check down.

  2. This is great, but what this really shows is that is hard to draw any one conclusion for any team that in the top right or bottom left. Those quadrants are perfect examples of the symbiotic relationship between QB and Oline and how they make the other one look.

A top right qaudrant means the QB is taking the first read and probably getting rid of the ball quick. There is less chance for pressure. A bottom left probably means the QB is holding the ball more and it may not be an Oline issue. The O Lines that are really standing on their heads are anyone in top left. They are giving their QB time to get through multiple reads without pressure getting to them. Reverse is true for bottom right…bad Oline that cant even let QB get thru first read.

The fact that Tanny is hitting first read a lot says, to me, that Kelly is doing a good job with play design and calling and the primary option is usually open.

  3. The Jets and Packers rankings are beyond ironic. Fucking crazy to see things play out the way they have so far.
