The Panthers, who were then being run by the since-fired Matt Rhule, not only moved up to the draft Corral at 94, but they traded the No. 137 pick that became Zappe, a third-round pick in 2023 to the Patriots to get Corral.

Rookie 4th round selection Sidy Sow was asked to play Tackle, which is not the position he played in college. He was overwhelmed in the pre-season, but he did gain valuable experience. You could see his potential, but he was just not ready to play at this level.

  1. You can call me a jealous/envious fan (because I am one), but…

… in 2009 the Patriots beat the Titans 59-0 without even attempting to score in the 4th quarter. They also had a larger point differential than the Dolphins did in their 70-20 game.

And they did it in the snow.

  2. I think most fans might get the wrong impression from yesterday’s game. Yes, it was sloppy everywhere, but it’s a divisional game and they are always tough and gritty that way. Besides Zach Wilson, the Jets roster is really, REALLY damn good from top to bottom, so winning that game was never going to be easy.

The fact that the offense moved the ball well against this defense speaks volumes to how much BoB’s system is starting to work. There is still a talent gap, but scheme and play calling have massively improved. Offensive flags are still killing drives, but no turnovers this time so they’re making strides in the right direction.

Speaking of talent gap, it’s clear for this team to take the next step up, the oline needs to be fixed and fast. Mac is turning into a fantastic QB in BoB’s system, but he has to get the ball out quickly each and every play. A true WR1 would also help elevate the rest of the receiving corp by putting players in their more natural roles and open up more space, but again, that won’t make much difference unless Mac has time to throw.

The defense is still elite. Despite being down three DBs, they completely held the passing game in check. Again, a large part of that is likely due to Zach Wilson, but you still have to play the team in front of you and the defense did a tremendous job on the road. The Jets’ lone touchdown came from a drive extended by a horrific DPI call, and apart from that, they pretty much dominated the game.

And where there is a talent gap on offense, can we appreciate the talent on defense? God damn is Gonzalez looking like a steal at 17. I’m still expecting a slump this year or maybe next year as team’s get more tape on him, but he is looking like a lockdown corner. The rest of the defense just flat out make plays when you need them and they are so fun to watch. This feels like a team that if you can get the lead in a game, the defense is good enough to hold it most of the time.

All in all, better effort than the first two games and we escape with a hard fought win. Next week in Dallas is going to be ROUGH with Dallas coming off an upset loss. I believe Dallas will come out looking to make a statement and we very well might be 1-3, but the non-division schedule starts to even out a bit more after that. I’m still thinking we end the year hovering around that 7th seed, last team in or first team out.
