Training Camp Scrimmage Recap – 9/25/2023

Thought this would be a fun little primer before preseason gets rolling on Thursday (9/28). I’ll do a follow up post for the second scrimmage tomorrow (9/26)!

Today’s scrimmage was held between Team Red vs. Team White, full rosters are [found here](https://twitter.com/NHLBlackhawks/status/1706309026303164805), but notable players for those without Twitter access (sorry, I don’t know where else to find this info) include:

**Team Red**

– Bedard

– Commesso

– Del Mastro

– Donato

– Hall

– Jones

– Kaiser

– Ludwinski

– Vlasic

**Team White**

– Allan

– Athanasiou

– T. Johnson

– Korchinski

– Murphy

– Raddysh

– Reichel

**Let me know if you are curious about where any other individual players fell.*

Starting lineups were the following:

**Team Red**

Hall-Bedard-Donato

Kaiser-Jones

Mrázek

**Team White**

Athanasiou-Reichel-Kurashev

Korchinski-Murphy

Team Red won the scrimmage 3-2 with goals from Bedard (x2) and Entwistle, while Reichel scored both goals for Team White.

Unsurprisingly, considering the scoreboard, Bedard and Reichel were being hailed as the two best players in the match by both [Roumeliotis](https://twitter.com/CRoumeliotis/status/1706337220104180186) and [Pope](https://twitter.com/BenPopeCST/status/1706335713040478586), with Pope noting that Reichel was looking like the single best player of the day.

  1. Sorry about the Twitter links, I really wish we could get convince some of the beat writers to post more on Reddit instead because it sucks not everyone has access to those links.

Anyways, we never want to look too deeply into a training camp scrimmage but couple thoughts include:

    – Reichel seems to be very comfortable in the move to center, obviously he performed here and I haven’t heard any unfavorable looks for him all training camp. He’ll almost certainly start there in the NHL this season, though I am curious to see how long that lasts or if he eventually slides back to wing. Either way, I remain fully convinced that he will breakout as a legit top six, possibly even top line player this season.

    – The starting lineups for this scrimmage damn well might be our starting top six forwards and top four defenseman for the beginning of the season, though I have to assume Vlasic will eventually replace Korchinski in the top four.

    – It’s good seeing the Hall-Bedard connection rolling early on! From the notes/clips I could find, they seem to click well already and it’s nice that Donato seems to complement them well, though we’ll see if he sticks there all year.

    – Just in general, it fucking rocks seeing Bedard & Reichel not only scoring, but pretty much dominating when they were on the ice. Both seemed to takeover the game, from what it sounds like. That is exactly what we want to see in a scrimmage like this and it gets me so pumped for them to be a 1-2 punch at the NHL level. I wonder how many fucking goals they would have scored today if Reichel was on Bedard’s RW instead of Donato lol
