Detroit Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson has been named the NFC Week 3 Defensive Player of the Week. On Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, Hutchinson logged four tackles, 2.0 sacks, two passes defended, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Hutchinson entered the game tied with the league lead in pressures forced, but hadn’t logged a sack in the team’s previous two games. Getting home twice on Desmond Ridder was a nice weight off his shoulders.
“Any time Hutch rushes I think he’s going to get there because it’s the nature of the way he rushes,” Dan Campbell said. “He’s high-motor, he’s got craft about what he does, he’s not a one-trick pony, he’s got a couple of different moves and he’s got ability, so I always expect it.”
This is the second time in Hutchinson’s young career in which he has won NFC Defensive Player of the Week. He also won it back in Week 11 against the New York Giants, when he tallied three tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble.
Hutchinson is the first Lions player to win two NFC Defensive Player of the Week awards since Darius Slay did it in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Lol hutch was great but I think branch should have won it.
Honestly thought Branch would’ve snagged it, but I guess that’s a good problem to have.
DPOY incoming.
Tahts great, but it was really Brian Branch
I love Hutch but he wasn’t even the best player on the defense
I love that we’re in a position where we can be debating which of our own players should be DPOW lol.
He wasn’t even the best defensive player on the team!!
Jesus, the comments.
Highest PFF-graded defensive players
DE Aidan Hutchinson — 91.8
S Brian Branch — 84.9
DT Alim McNeill — 80.8
S Ifeatu Melifonwu — 76.0
DE Romeo Okwara — 74.2
PFF isn’t everything, but Hutchinson is clearly the player that makes the defense work.
Yeah BB definitely deserved it. NFL seems to have a hard on for D linemen tho
I think the weirdest part of Hutch’s statline is always what he does in the passing game.
2022 he had the second most picks on the team behind Kirby Joseph and tied (admittedly with a lot of players) at 6th most pass deflections.
2023 he’s tied with BRIAN BRANCH for most pass breakups across 3 games.
Game sealing QB strip sack that he recovered himself. That’s about as clutch as it gets.
Branch was amazing but this was well deserved by Hutch. Not sure why most people think Branch should get it tbh Hutch was next level and Branch had a couple mistakes here and there
Yes! Well deserved. Keep putting in the work. Next up, Defensive MVP (next year or 2).
