(Robb) Several reports have linked the Celtics as likely bidders for the defensive-minded guard (Holiday). However, multiple league sources told MassLive they do not expect Boston to come out on top in what is guaranteed to be a competitive bidding war among contenders in both conferences.

BRobb with the wet blanket
We could have him if we wanted. I doubt anyone is going to beat an offer of Rob + multiple first rounders, but I’d guess that Brad doesn’t think it’s worth it
Of course. Its always impossible for the celtics but possible for every other team.
That was my thought when the Himmelsbach report came out yesterday.
It’d be GM malpractice for Brad not to kick the tires on this, because Jrue is a perfect fit and a ceiling raiser. But between matching his salary and outbidding the dozen other teams that will be interested the chances of the actual deal making sense for us are pretty low.
Celtics will probably kick the tires and get a chance to talk with Jrue about contract stuff. What is the range of money he is looking for and for how many years? We’ll likely be over the 2nd apron this year if we acquire him. Future years would depend on his contract. A lot has been said about Dame’s age, but Jrue is the same age as Dame and needs a new contract next year.
I think the cheaper his contract, the more likely we are to make a serious effort. However, if he wants more than he is making now, then I just don’t see the fit long-term.
Getting Jrue means likely parting with one of Timelord/Al + going over the 2nd apron this year + future 2nd apron considerations + limiting future roster construction.
There’s a lot to consider and, though the idea seems wonderful, it just might not make sense.
That’s the nail in the coffin, Holiday is too valuable. There’s an argument to be made whether we should trade Brogdon + Horford for him plus some picks, but if there’s a bidding war that makes us compete for Jrue, it’s not gonna be worth it, he’s not a major need.
