  1. This collapse has objectively been one of the most devastating in baseball history.

Let’s take a look at how this is rolling out:

*coming off a three game sweep in Chicago*

Tuesday: comeback win from Atlanta, Suzuki whiffs on an easy pop up, walked off (one run loss)

Wednesday: choke the lead three consecutive times in the 8th, 9th, and 10th, walked off (one run loss)

Thursday: another comeback win for Braves, errors by our best defenders

Friday: Cubs give us hope in late innings and choke in the 10th, walked off (one run loss)

Now take a look at the Marlins.

Wednesday: score two in the ninth, take the lead, eventually win (one run win)

Thursday: score two in the ninth, take the lead, probable W (eventual one run win)

Friday: score four in the eighth, take the lead, eventually win (one run win)

  2. How fitting that the final nail in the coffin is Patrick Wisdom striking out with runners in scoring position.

  3. While I am happy most of the year went better than expected to have even been in the position to make it to the playoffs…It sickens my stomach that all they had to do was pretty much go .500 this month and they’d be in the playoffs. If they don’t make it, They did it to themselves. Nobody’s fault but their own.

  4. It’s just not destined to be, is it?

Never been a doomer but I’m starting to see where they’re coming from.

  5. Goodbye Ross. the 2019 collapse cost Maddon his job, and this one should cost it for you. Thanks for 2016 but it’s over.

It just sucks. It was such a fun season. I was so glad we didn’t sell and make the second half a wash. But the last 3 weeks have been atrocious.

See you all in 2024. Fix that bullpen.

  6. I had to turn off the game after Wisdom struck out cuz I could already tell what was gonna happen. Wish I were right about better things for once.

  7. There is just a large gulf between actual contenders and where this team is at. A lot of work to do in the offseason if we want meaningful baseball back at Wrigley.

  8. Whelp, that’ll do it. The September injuries didn’t help, but not adding at least one more arm & bat at the deadline hurt. Having to rely on the likes of Cuas & Mastrobuoni down the stretch are not a recipe for success.

  9. And the dick punching continues. You’d think at least one of these one run games would go our way, but it won’t. Was trying to avoid being a full on doomer since the braves are the best team in baseball but I can’t even defend this team at all anymore. Absolutely pathetic finish to the season. This collapse is unacceptable. And sure, end of the day they weren’t likely to make a big postseason run, they weren’t even expected to make the playoffs this year, but they were there. They had it and they fucking threw it away again. I’m tired of watching epic chokes and collapses with this team man.

  10. Unbelievable. We lost and we were up against all of their worst/youngest pitchers. How fitting..

  11. I’m still happy for this team and happy with our young core. Swanson and hoerner in the middle. Moral. The young guys we have coming up. Our future is bright. Yes, we choked this month. Let’s get a great manager. Help in the bullpen. Maybe another starter. I’m ok w losing bellinger. It will hurt but we can better spend the money elsewhere. The future looks good.

  12. bye bye playoffs

imagine not trading Bellinger at the deadline

now this franchise is utterly screwed

  13. Cubs are 2-8 this month in 1 run games and 11-16 overall this month. Those 2 one-run wins were against the Rockies

  14. Marlins: yet another late inning comeback victory

Cubs: yet another 1 run, late inning loss

    microcosm of the year

  15. Boy when I saw additions In off-season I said 82 wins this season a month ago I thought boy was I wrong this team might be able to win playoff series now I’m just in disbelief on lack of creativity to get outs in these games do a opener these last six empty the tank do something fuck man well off to hockey now

  16. Haha, Pirates. We will return the favor eventually……not sure when because ya’ll will always suck

  17. How certain players and a certain manager performed or did not perform during this epic Cub collapse must effect what Hoyer and the Cub front office does this winter.

Changes have to be made, if for no other reason than to change the vibe in that clubhouse. Pitching upgrade is an obvious necessity without question. But two big-time bats are needed – three, if they do not sign Bellinger.
