[Dayal] Hughes on winning this season: “I’m gonna be 24 in October… Petey’s gonna be 25, Millsy’s 30, Demmer’s 27, (we’re) getting up there. Not up there, up there but we’re not little kids anymore. It’s time… they drafted us to do things and (we) gotta do those things”

  1. He’s not wrong. They just got screwed by management refusing to properly build a cup contending team around them.

  2. Haven’t heard a response like that in a while! I’ll tell you that for free.

  3. I like how he lowkey shaded the mid-to-late 20’s and early 30’s… Guess I’ll find myself a nursing home now. 🥲

  4. Love it, definitely not a country club locker room culture with this statement. No excuses for slackers when the captain is outworking you every game.

  5. Not even a day into the regular season as a Captain and he’s already putting pressure on himself and the team to win. There’s going to be a ton of accountability in that locker room from day one. This was a great pick for Captaincy.

  6. Words. I like those words but. Win both games against Edmonton. That’s a hell of a lot easier than winning a cup. Make those words mean something right away.

  7. This is very refreshing to hear, especially from our new captain. I really like how Hughes is seeing things from a bigger picture instead of just giving generic answers like “Y’know we got a great group of guys out there”, “We gotta play a full 60 minute” and “We have to take things one shift at a time”.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this season will play out and also hoping management will reciprocate (fingers crossed) the amount of desire the team wants to win.
