This still irritates me to this day. Did all the voters care about was batting average? I guess they had no idea about advanced stats.

Advanced stats didn’t exist back then, so ignore WAR and OPS. Neither guy had any power, so they probably did concentrate on BA. Their offensive numbers are very close. Defensively the nod would have to go to Lofton. Certainly not as big a snub as Belle not getting the MVP in 95.
Probably a little of it played into Milwaukee being the better team in ‘92 unfortunately
Bigger question is how did Manny Ramirez lose ROY to Bob Hamlin?
