After 4 weeks, the VAUNTED Commanders defense is ranked 29th in the NFL allowing 30ppg. Only the Giants, Bears and Broncos are worse. Coach Rivera spoke before the season about getting out to a fast start defensively after three straight seasons of slow starts.

  1. We suck at the beginning of the year. About the first 5ish weeks. At least we’re consistent.

  2. This is highly misleading. We did better against the bills than any other team it’s just that the offense gave them the ball in our own territory. Eagles went to the Super Bowl last year too. We did well against the cardinals too except we gave them way many chances in our red zone as well.

  3. The bullshit continues… our saving grace is the offense should be able to carry us to a few more victories

  4. PPG obviously matters but people look at stats too holistically and not from actual in game scenarios.

Arizona they played great, reason we won.
Denver they got molly whopped to start but did have a good part to play in the comeback. After the first 3 TDs, they force turnover, punt, punt, turnover, FG, punt, FG. By which point the offense had put up 31 points. Definitely not a good game (we don’t talk about the hail mary) but they did enough in between the bad to help the offense come away with a win.

Buffalo they give up 16 points in the first half despite O giving up 3 turnovers, then come out with two turnovers of their own and no points allowed in the 3rd quarter. Giving the offense every chance to mount a comeback.

Philly was the roughest overall, we only forced 3 punts with no turnovers and Forbes got his welcome to the NFL game against one of the best. Despite that in OT given the short field they manage to force what would be a 3 and out, but get tush pushed into a conversion and have to settle for a 54 yard FG to attempt a game winner. Not a good performance, but IMO they did what they could given the circumstances.

  5. Listen to Sheehan’s podcast from yesterday which breaks the defense down. Sunday was really the only game it underperformed. Not worried at all about the D.

  6. Can someone explain why Forbes was marking AJ Brown all game instead of St Juste who as I recall did a decent job against him last year?

  7. The defense hasnt been up to par so far by any means.

I dont think they played poorly vs the Bills (offense kept giving them the ball plus a pick 6) or Arizona.

  8. We’re gonna beat some bum QBs like Fields, Riddler and Jones very soon and then everyone will think we’re great again.

  9. It’s a failure of team building investing so much in a defensive unit. They’ve honestly been playing okay overall, but the marginal value of a dominant unit over an okay one is minimal. Defense is so volatile year-to-year and even game-to-game and we’re seeing that now

  10. Defense hasn’t been horrible but it hasn’t been great either. Just kind of mediocre.

  11. How’s Jon Allen been this year? We’ve all seen Payne absolutely blowing up offenses this year. Feels like Jon Allen been invisible despite 2 sacks in 4 games. Think he was hurt to start the season.

Forbes has to figure it out or he needs to be coming off the bench. He got smoked on Sunday.

I’m not even mad about our linebackers. Feel like they are playing well for who they are. Any deficiencies there is on the front office for not upgrading the position year after year.

All in all, D passes the eye test. We should be fine. The offense needs to move the sticks and stop turning the ball over. Sam and the OLine need to get *NSYNC.

  12. Yes, thats what happens when you play 2 of the top 3 offenses, and you have a rookie CB who isnt ready for the league giving up 40-45% of your passing yards.

Lets circle back once we have played the next 3 games against 3 below average offenses.

  13. We played two high powered offenses…and after 4 games we are 2-2….a whole lot of time to go..save the graphs and pie charts and statistics for the end of the year…we ended last season giving up 18 ppg…with an offense barely averaging that..everything can be taken into context..
