  1. Free agency it is.

Thats fine honestly. If Pete leaves it’s because he doesn’t want to be a Met.

We saw with Nimmo and Diaz that Cohen is fine letting guys test FA and will beat the best offer if he wants to.

  2. Why do ppl think this means Pete is gone? He’s still gonna be a Met pending a significant overpay by someone which I really don’t think he will get. 7 years 200 mill Is around what he’ll get. Most likely from us.

  3. Pete took the buck firing harder than others. The manager revolving door isn’t helping anything.

  4. Pete hires Boras a year before he’s a free agent.
Perhaps Pete wants to nudge at Stearns to trade now ? lol

  5. He should have been extended by now. Because it didn’t happen, Boras is now involved.

His price just went way up & his chances of returning just took a hit.

  6. I’m going to leave my first comment up because it was my gut reaction.

My initial thought was “so Pete is going to FA”.

But thinking about it more, I could see it being for two different different reasons.

Could easily be Alonzo feeling the writing on the wall, he will be going to free agency, so hire the guy that gets the most money free agency.

It could also be, that he wants a deal done with the Mets, his current agent has not been able to get that done, so he decided to switch agencies and figured why not go with the best considered negotiator in MLB.

I know Boris has been viewed as a guy who recommends free agency, but he has also gotten a bunch of massive extensions through

  7. Pete is gonna re-sign in Free Agency, he was always going to re-sign in Free Agency. He’s a generational power hitter, no reason for him to not try to bring his price up. He’s going to remain a Met this year, then sign a FA deal with us like Nimmo and Diaz.

  8. Y’all are thinking way too hard. He hired a very powerful agent so that he can get his big payday. That’s it.

  9. This isn’t a few years ago, Cohen doesn’t have a bad relationship with Boras and isn’t going to balk at a fair asking price in FA. If he’s gone it’ll be because Stearns decides he’s not worth the final price, and if Pete gets that much then I wish him well.

  10. You know who else is a Boras client? Brandon Nimmo.

Some of y’all need to calm the fuck down 🙄

  11. Well at least there won’t be any extension drama this offseason. Extensions talks are a non-starter for Boras clients. It ain’t happening.

I think Pete will be a Met for life but it won’t be until he signs a deal after 2024.

  12. Pete knows cohen has deep pockets and throws big money at things he wants. No reason from his perspective to take a hometown discount after the contracts that have been given out. Him signing for an extra $5m a year isn’t going to keep the team from signing someone else to help the team like it might on another club

  13. Isn’t Boras Nimmo’s agent? Didn’t Nimmo just resign with the Mets?

Reaching free agency or not, this doesn’t prevent a deal to come back to the Mets.

Pete wants to get paid, rightfully so. Changing agents doesn’t give any credence to him leaving the team, it just helps him get paid.

  14. For all the people crying that this means he obviously not int sign an extension – can you let me know who Nimmo’s agent is? Thanks.

  15. Translation: “Pay me more money than anyone else is willing to pay me or I’m out of here.”

  16. Good for Pete, get the bag, as I recall Boras has a decent relationship with Cohen so this doesn’t mean he is 100% gone.

  17. I’m not gonna say we’re fucked because Brandon Nimmo basically did the same thing (and look what happened), but I am a little worried that some sucker GM will actually overpay Alonso by a lot

  18. Sucks if he leaves, but why wouldn’t he? It’s probably his one big bag – might as well go for it

  19. Aren’t we all agreed on price, it’s just years right now?

Can’t see Sterns’s letting Alonso go.

  20. So no extension this off-season and a last minute signing at best

Assuming Boras and Cohen still have any sort of relationship post Correa

Maybe Alonso is how that’s repaired but that’s hopeful

  21. On the one hand, I’ve always assumed unless the Mets offer a crazy extension, he was gonna test free agency cause despite what *some* Mets fans feel about him and his production/consistency, he will be a highly coveted FA teams want.

But even with that logical take, the irrational part of me still wants to feel like the insecure/jealous partner trope who takes everything as evidence they’re leaving 🙁
