Looks like getting Gilikan back is out the question. Stuck with Mr 30 yard, no hang time, Aussie punter for now….

  1. What a stupid decision by the staff here. Hedley sucks and considering how often we need the punter, this could really negatively affect the outcome of games.

  3. Yes he signed with the Cards several days, maybe a week ago.

    Horrible blunder by DA and staff. Hedley is abysmal- [3rd weakest leg in league](https://www.footballdb.com/statistics/nfl/player-stats/punting). He’s good for at least 1 shank a game and he’s not accurate at all.. he always drops punts between the 10 and 20 instead of inside the 10, or he boots it into the end zone.

    I miss Morestead… made a post a few days ago that we should sign Matt Araiza- charges were dropped, girl lied. There’s no reason not to sign him.

    ETA: Hedley actually has the weakest leg in the NFL if you go by longest punt… Hedley’s longest punt this season is 52 yards- dead last in the league (the best is 74 yards FWIW and several punters have hit 74 so far this year)

  5. If the battle was close why not keep the guy who has at least flashed upside. Hedley is absolutely horrible and that has been obvious since day 1. Even with this.. the saints should be looking around other teams to find a replacement

  6. I am not sure that our punter is losing us games. For example, he had 4 punts last week.

    #1 – 36 yards to TB 47 (holding penalty takes this back to the 37)
    #2 – 36 yards to TB 13

    #3 – 52 yards to TB 8

    #4 – 38 yards to TB 12

    The first kick was bad, but 3 punts in the 20 and a long of 52 yards. Only 1 punt was returnable for 7 total punt return yards. To compare, Tampa had 4 punts 190 total yards 2 in the 20, but 2 returns for 45 return yards. The yards the other punter had over him are negated by the return yards.
