Getting doubled and winning his pass rush at an Elite level

  1. You love to see an above average win rate opposite him with Jonathan Greenard as well. That’s a lethal combo

  2. Yeah, WAJ is really fucking good.

He was considered the best pass rusher to enter the draft since Garrett. But that’s not what’s most impressive about him.

His pro comp entering the draft was DeMarcus Ware. And like Ware I think WAJ is probably one of the most complete edge defenders in the league. The sacks will come but outside of his pass rushing abilities he’s proven to be very solid against the run and on special teams.

I’ll admit I was against using the #2 pick to take him because of how badly we needed a QB. But the trade up to 3 may play out as one of the best trades in the teams history. I think it will quite a while before we see another all around elite edge player enter the draft.

  3. Looking forward to seeing how many Nick Caserio truthers show up to post season draft evaluation threads to tell us how bad he sucks at talent evaluation again…

  4. Just watching the Texans at game speed shows how each team spends extra resources on WAJ, allowing Greenard, Pitre, et al to flourish.

  5. Not to rain on any parades as he’s still doing very well but this stuff can be subjective as hell. PFF has his win rate at 17% which puts him at 10th in the league (still excellent) among players with more than 85 pass rush snaps.

For reference Aiden Hutchinson in his rookie year won at 12.4%, Myles Garret Rookie year was 13.4%, and Nick Bosa rookie year was 13.9%.

Basically if he keeps this up we should feel really good about him but I’m not sure it’s quite as good as this suggests.
